SusieSunshine 68 Posted August 24, 2012 My sister is going through this process with me. She is wondering if Mirena needs to come out before surgery. I know you have to stop oral contraceptives but do you need to have Mirena taken out? Obviously she will ask her Dr. Just wondering ahead of time what you guys think! djbrn02 6 Posted August 24, 2012 No you can leave it in. Actually the surgery is nowhere in that area. You or she will be fine.
SusieSunshine 68 Posted August 24, 2012 Haha Well I hope the surgery isn't in that area. I was just concerned with the hormones and blood clotting factor!
djbrn02 6 Posted August 24, 2012 There is such a small amount of hormones that it doesn't affect anything. Sorry I thought you were talking about the surgeon having difficulties with surgery with it being in. But no the hormones should not be a problem. .
ilikebunnies 48 Posted August 24, 2012 I kept my Merina in during surgery and it wasn't an issue. 1 SusieSunshine reacted to this
IcEbOx32 6 Posted August 24, 2012 After surgery when I woke they gave me a shot to help prevent clotting. If that help I believe everyone gets it. I have paraguard it's like mirena but no hormones.. I did notice that since I got my period the same day as surgery it did have more clotting. Not to be completely gross. But nothing to worry about.
pjenkinson1970 20 Posted August 24, 2012 I am having surgery Aug 28th and I have had mine for 4 years, he said it was fine at my pre-op appt. I never have a period but I'm on my 7th day of my liquid diet and from the drastic change in my diet and loosing 14lbs so quickly I have some light spotting and cramping. I called my gyno and she said that was my hormones changing and after I loose weight my periods might come back regularly. Just some info I thought you might want to know.
