as missy said, what is a red flag food? no food should be off limits (if good judgement is used, and portion control) you can eat anything. some foods are just more calorie laden and high fat and (cheap/greasy/salty) and others arent. salad is great. i have always understood its the high fat dressing that is bad. but if you use just alittle (and not the whole bottle) i dont see why it wouldnt be okay.

good eating :)

I use the fat free Hidden Valley Ranch, and I swear, you can't tell it's fat free. It's so good!

I eat salads all the time without any problems. I have read posts where people have had issues with some lettuces, and say the darker greens are easier on the band. I have never had an issues and eat all types of lettuces.

Thanks for sharing. Well my doctor gave me a list of "red flag " foods to stay away from. I just assumed this was universal list for lap band patients. I know hot dogs is on the list for an example just couldn't remember about salad. But it sounds like everyone does fine with it. Good eats!

Shark,

You should fill in your profile so we can advise you better? Don't know if your pre op, post op, 4 months out? Salads go down easy for me. Big carrot chunks tend to be a problem so I make sure if there's carrots in my salad, they're shredded.

In fact, I've always like salads but now I crave them. I guess that's a good thing?

For me it depends on my band. Sometimes its tight and I can't even get a banana down. Other times Salads are great...you will get to know your band and how it feels when you take those first two bites...as for red flags...they say anything out of a fast food window...fair food and food that have fillers like hot dogs...everything in moderation and read packages ...keep to the golden rule..protein first..vegetables, fruit then.........hope this helps...yours for less of you...

I eat salads every day. I usually use spinach, but have also thrown in iceberg and I never have a problem with it. However, my mom (also banded) can only eat chopped lettuce (kinda like lettuce for tacos). So everyone's different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
