I'm Making Lists. . .

Recommended Posts

And checking them twice! I just realized 4 months away. Wow, that's going to be interesting!? After-lapband!!!

Here's what I need from anyone who has a suggestion! I'm making laminated lists to put on my fridge! I've heard lots of lapband dont's in the past few days. So I guess I'll start there.

If you have any important or helpful lapband dont's!!!! Please add them here. I appreciate it do much! :)

#1 - Never chew gum! If it gets swallowed accidentally, it will get stuck & have to be surgically removed.

List of lapband don'ts

#1 - Never chew gum! If it gets swallowed accidentally' date=' it will get stuck & have to be surgically removed.

#2 - Don't weigh yourself daily! Weight fluctuates up and down, during the day! It will be a more accurate representation of your true weight, if you weigh once a week!

Don't drink liquid calories!

Don't drink soda with carbonation - oh the pain!

Don't forget to get your Protein in.

Don't forget your Water.

Don't forget to excercise.

Don't eat more that one cup at a meal.

Don't be to hard on yourself!!

Perhaps you can change some of the "don'ts" into what you can do. There are some that are flat "no-no's" with the band but I think if you can make a list of what the "do's" are that will be more motivating. It may feel self-defeating to have a list of what you can't do and more self-serving to focus on what you can do. :)

(Kind of the glass half full approach).

Do chew your food thoroughly

Do get 3 ounces of Protein in each meal

Do enjoy the journey

Do keep the faith ~ you can do this!

Best of luck to you!

Sorry, I'm going to veer off topic for just a second - we're not supposed to chew gum? I've never heard this.

It's so weird the varying items you learn about lapband! This was told to our group in the nutrition class by the dietician. But others have said they didn't know that! She said it is recommended that you NEVER eat whole kernel corn, popcorn, coconut, and chewing gum! My surgeon has had to remove stuck chewing gum surgical and that didn't sound fun! However, I almost shed a tear when she said no popcorn. I will mourn the loss of my beloved popcorn! Haha. Apparently, when the kernel pops, it spreads out into a big explosion of an indigestible mess. I'm saddened by this, lol.

Everybody's list will certainly vary... my top five are

1)no carbonation... that means no more beloved Diet Coke

2) follow drs orders to a tee

3) weigh myself daily... Not doing so got me to 377 lbs

4)record every thing I eat in some kind of log to track calories. I used calorie counter on my droid phone

5) drink Water water water 64 ounces every single day do not go to bed without doing so

I don't think I've ever heard of no popcorn or gum from my dr. I chew gum daily, and I LUV popcorn. Don't eat it very often cuz it's a slider for me. I can eat a huge tub of it without feeling a tad bit full. Ugh. I don't think I've ever accidently swallowed a piece of gum either - even as a kid. Unless you chew like 10 pc's of gum at a time, I don't think the wad would be big enuf to not slide thru. But follow your dr's orders!

Might I add:

BE PATIENT! Thats my biggest word of wisdom. You didn't gain your weight overnite and it's gunna take a long time to get it all off. I went into my band journey thinking that it would just start falling off right away. Didn't happen. Didn't start losing anything till 5 mths post op when I actually got restriction. I guess I could've white knuckled it and weighed and measured my intake during that time and lost, but the reason why I got the band in the first place was so that I wouldn't have to diet again. And I don't.

Good luck!

Marci

OMG! Really!? Not that I should be celebrating about realizing that my favorite treat is a slider food & I could potentially eat an entire tub! But if I only allow myself to get a small bag at the movies, instead of a tub. I will hopefully learn to control myself. :)

At the support group I've attended at my hospital (which is moderated by my dietician) they have had no issue with popcorn. In fact, they joke about how it comes up everytime. Many of the attendees are big fans of "skinny pop" popcorn that you can buy already popped. I tried it and it is very tasty and only 39 calories per cup. ;-)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
