Gallbladder Issues

Recommended Posts

Everything has been moving right along since my LB surgery...until now. I started having a irritating pain a couple of weeks ago in my right side. When I went for my monthly LB checkup, I mentioned it to my doctor. After asking some questions, I was scheduled for an ultrasound for my gallbladder. Tuesday morning I had my ultrasound that was clear and showed no stones. My dr had went ahead and ordered a HIDA scan if the ultrasound turned out negative. Long story short, during the HIDA scan, the was no visibility of function. Basically, my gallbladder has quit working. I knew that this was common for gastric and also occurred in some LB patients; however, I never expected to be one of the statistics! So it looks like surgery will be soon. I am just thankful that my LB surgeon is so great about listening to what is going on with his patients.

Has anyone else had their GB removed since being banded? Any issues or concerns that I need to be aware of?

I was banded 12/30/11 and have just been diagnosed with gall stones. I'm going to see the surgeon on Monday.

I was banded about 3 months ago and last week I was diagnosed with gallstones after having horrible pain. I go to see the surgeon Monday and will hopefully get the date of when he is going to take it out. I never had any problems with my gallbladder til now. I've heard rapid weight loss can be a culprit.

I have a band, and in Feb. I had my gallbladder removed. While he was in there he did a plication/imbrication also since my lb has not been as successful as he or I wanted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
