I was banded on Monday. Am having problems with shoulders and pain, but also anything I am drinking seems to have a strange taste to it and a huge aftertaste. Never experienced this before. Also can also drink only about 2 oz. at a time. Is this normal?

That is good you want to go slow. I thought that I was the only one that had taste issues. The foods that I loved before has the most horrible taste since the surgery. 3 months out. So my meals consists of fruit, cheese, crackers and fish. I loved roasted chicken now the taste is the worst. We had our family reunion last weekend, I just watched everyone else eat, thank God there were veggies there or I would have had to leave and find food for me to eat. I did ask the doctor, he said the good thing was that I only have a taste for the good Protein.< /p>

Thanks for your reply, I hope this goes away. Even chicken broth is making me gag!

Does this taste issue have anything to do with ketosis/bad breath?

Maybe your tasting your smelly breath?

(kinda like how everything tastes gross in the morning before you brush your teeth and take a swig of mouthwash)

yes, it certainly is normal. immediately after i had surgery i was given ice to suck... and it was ''laden with salt'' or so i thought. lol. this strange taste lasted with me for about 10 days and just gradually disappeared. The surgery must do something to the taste buds, but its only temporary. REgarding just small amounts of Fluid, you are very swollen still... so just keep sipping. Have a water bottle with you at all times.. everyone has difficulty keeping up their fluid intake, especially in the early stages. You will improve. Take it easy for now,.

It's not just in the morning that your taste is affected, it's most foods that I use to eat no longer taste the same. I do remember for a time, that after I had my part of my thyroid removed that my taste for certain things changed as well, I was about a year later that I started to get my taste back for those things.

I had that problem for about a month post op. I use to love banana and when I got to mushies I added a banana to my Protein Shake and it was way to sweet. oatmeal tasted to sweet. I am just starting to not have issues with taste.

Maryan,

This happened to me a few days after surgery. Even Water was disgusting and that is all I drink, could you imagine. While I was able to get a lot of Water down immediately after surgery, I was mindful to not 'gulp'.. Oh, this will pass, you will get your taste buds back very soon.

Hang in there ((hugs))
