Hey!! It Works Now!!

Recommended Posts

I haven't been able to post or reply in here!! If you are the one that fixed it... THANK YOU!!!

My date is 9/26... just finished third nutrition class this morning. I have my pre-surgical labs in the morning. After that, all that remains is final weigh in, approval and final meeting with the surgeon!!

Today I was told my pre-op diet would be expanded from 10 to 14 days as part of a new hospital policy so that's kinda nerve racking.

I will admit... NOTHING scared me more than going to these last 2 nutrition classes. One was for pre-op diet and one for post-op diet. Seeing the requirements and strict nature of the diets... it gives me palpitations! I am already slowly working my way towards the pre-op diet one to two meals a day. I do better with slower transitions.

I know I can do this. I can. I even have a "thin" friend that agreed to do the pre-op diet with me to support me. Aren't I lucky?!?!?

I am excited and nervous and overwhelmed and hopeful!!

I look forward to sharing this adventure with you all!

I was pleased to read that your surgeon is providing you with so much informative and helpful nutrition education both for the pre op and post op phases of your diet. It will make a major positive difference in your level of confidence and understanding as you move through the phases of your new life with your band!

Best wishes as your journey continues...

That sounds great! My pre-op diet would start Sept 12th. The more the merrier!!

Thank you!!! I wasn't happy when they changed it from 2 classes to 3 just because I am trying to save my PTO time for post-op.

HOWEVER, hearing some of the questions asked (and re-asked) by people helps me understand why the Bariatric team here thought it was too much info for one class for some people.

We even had to pass a test to show basic comprehension of the main theories!! They include that in our paperwork to the insurance company.

They also mandate a one month post-op with the dietitian one on one and my insurance authorizes 6 visits that first year after surgery to help remain successful.

Congrats! I would just say, dont get disappointed if you lose slowly at the beginning. I was almost regretting getting the band, when I had only lost 12 lbs in 4 months. Now I am 8 months out and I have lost 61lbs....It takes a while to get to that green zone, but when you do, the weight just starts falling off! Congrats on your decision.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
