Can You Pick Your Port Location?

Recommended Posts

Yes i know I need to ask my dr. I just got approved today! I'm wondering if port location is different based on starting size? I really don't want mine under my boob like some of you have. Any info will help.

Surgeon's choose the location. You may be able to request a different location, but I would imagine they place it where they believe it has the best chance of staying.

Also, it seems to me that common placement is along the lower abdominal wall around the belly button.

My surgeon told me he could put it anywhere I wanted. Not having any preference I let him choose based on his experience. Mine is about three inches above and two inches left of my navel when I stand. It doesn't seem to be in the way of anything at this time.

Best of luck to you.

That's a great question for your surgeon. When I asked mine where he puts it, he said that he ALWAYS puts it in the same location. On the right side, about an inch or two below my ribs. He said that he found that location to be the least likely to flip for his patients. I sleep on my right side and would have preferred it to be placed on my left, but as it turns out it doesn't even bother me.

Mine is smack dead center of my stomach between the belly button and the largest incision.

I didn't ask about this before surgery and didn't have a preference.

Mine is in the same location. I didn't ask because I figure he is the one looking at my insides not me. That is the same reason I let him choose which band he used. I really have no idea what my innards look like and I'd like to keep it that way. Lol. Mine doesn't ever bother me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
