Hey Miranda, congrats on your surgery date. Well I'm trying to have the surgery I've been denied with my insurance company. So the insurance company have me doing the 3 consecutive appts with a weight loss doctor, nutrional & psychological consult along with a medical clearance. I kinda got a little discouraged but I'm going through with everything. Just trying to find out if you had to go through the same situation. How long did it take b4 you finally got your surgery date

I'm a self pay. So I went to the seminar and called the next Monday and we set my date then. It went very fast. I wish my insurance would pay so I could get the nutrition consult to help me through. I think dr Bagnato Is getting a nutritionist in his office soon though. I scheduled my surgery a month out so I could get prepared. I was really impressed with the seminar. I will keep you posted and let you know how the surgery goes. Don't give up hope It WILL happen for you

I am getting the band done with Dr. Bagnato on 8/31. I have BC/BS Federal so insurance had me to the 3 month consult and then nutritionalist and pschy eval. But it goes by fast started 5/30 and exactly 3 months later getting the band.

Talooka, are you doing the sugar busters diet? If so, how's it going? Haven't had my Pre-op to meet dr Bagnato yet, but he seems like a good choice from the seminar.

I am doing the sugar busters diet along with Body by Vi because I really like those Protein Shakes. I have 2 shakes with fruit and one low calorie meal a day. I stop drinking my 3-5 Dr. Peppers a day and drink 64oz. of Water with the help of crystal light singles. I have preop 8/29.

I started the 3 month dr supervisored weight loss and Knew that my insurance required the other things. So I did the other things that first month because when I went to the 2nd month meeting then all my things were submitted to insurance that process of approval took two weeks. I am having my surgery almost exactly on 3 month date when I first had my inital appt with Dr. Bagnato.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
