Starting To Worry!!! :/

Recommended Posts

Let me start by saying I had my surgery on July 12th, so that puts me at a little over a month post op.

Okay....a couple of days ago I noticed a slight pinkish color just around my incision site. I didn't think much of it at the time, I just chalked it up to healing. BUT...this afternoon I'm getting ready for bed and notice immediately that the incision site is more red than pink and seems to be a tiny bit further away from the actual site. It really freaked me out!! What could this be??? I sooo don't want anything to be wrong with me or my band and all I keep thinking is INFECTION!! Could I get an infection this far out of surgery?? I have an appointment on Monday for my first fill, but wondering if I should wait. I NEED ADVISE!! Has anyone experienced this??? I'm really starting to worry!!

If you are worried about an infection. Don't wait till monday. Call your surgeon, go to urgent care and have them look at it. Be smart. Take care.

My husband had shoulder surgery a few years ago, and at about 1 month post op, he developed an infection at his incision site. It can happen. His was red and hot to the touch. The urgent care doctor said we caught it early, so all he needed was some oral antibiotics for 10 days, and we put polysporin on the incision a few times a day.

Thank you for responding!! I hope that's all I'll need if it is in fact an infection. Gonna call first thing in the morning!!

That is what the dr is there for. Doubtful it is serious but he will identify it and treat if needed.

Good luck

I sent a pic to the nurse at my doctors office and she said it looked okay to her. She said if it gets a circle around it or is hot to the touch then to come in. She said everyone heals differently. I go see them for my normal appt on Monday morning. I'm feeling a little better about it, but still won't be completely worry free until I see them on Monday just to be sure. Thanks for the 3 responses I got....lol. :)

When I was three weeks post op I had my first follow up appointment with my surgeon and when he looked at my largest incision he said he didn't like the color of it, it looked fine to me it was pinkish, I told him how my skin is really sensitive and all my cuts, wounds heal this way. He put me on antibiotics for ten days as a precaution. Better to be safe than sorry. Seven weeks post it's still a touch pinkish and I have no infection. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about and if it is theyll put you on antibiotics.

Thank you for the reply. I'll go to the dr on Monday and see what they say after really seeing it. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
