NeenBand 7 Posted March 21, 2006 Hey all, I was wondering if any of you have ever had the after surgery gas get stuck in yourbowel? I have the diaphram-neck-shoulder pain, but woke up today to very tender pain on my left lower side. Hurts to laugh or breathe even. I do have mild diverticuli in my bowel, but to have a flare food has to be caught in it, and I've not eaten anything. Still on liquids. I was just wondering if this could be gas or should I take myself to the gastro. :faint:

cashley 0 Posted March 21, 2006 I had it really bad and though I had read about it wasn't prepared for the Gas Pain most of all the issues. It didn't feel normal and seemed like it took to long to go away. But now it's a distant memory that "doesn't seem that bad"... Though I thought I was dying then. Sunta 5 Posted March 21, 2006 I did get (and still do from time to time) a pain just like that in my lower abdomen. I do think it's gas, because I can later feel it moving out of that area in into my side or shoulder. When it's in that area it does not feel sharp like when it's in other areas, rather it feels like an aching or a cramp.
Val 0 Posted March 21, 2006 As soon as I woke up from my surgery, they had me start with my walking. I have not experienced any gas pains at all. Try walking, I know it works. Good luck.
fiveholts714 0 Posted March 22, 2006 One way to know is to take extra strength gas x. If that doesn't get rid of the pain you need to call the doc.
puddin 7 Posted March 22, 2006 I had the same pain and Gas X did squat for me. The ONLY thing that helped me was 1)Throwing away the fruit juices, and 2)WALKING!
leatha_g 4 Posted March 22, 2006 The gas in your bowel and the gas in your shoulder are two totally different things. The referred shoulder pain after surgery is actually from the 'stretching' of the diaphragm during surgery - the gas referred to is actually C02 and dissappates within minutes of the surgery. The pain is from the actual stretching of the diaphragm (pull your t-shirt and see how the material doesn't immediately spring back). It takes days, maybe a few weeks for this stretching to heal, hence the referred shoulder pain. The gas-x will ONLY help the gas buildup in the bowel due to things eaten or drank. That's totally unrelated.
NeenBand 7 Posted March 22, 2006 Well that lower bowel pain went away. It was being caused by the protien drinks. I swear, none of them are suiting my gut. I've done Unjury, Isopure and a high quality soy protien.
