Nurses are the worst patients. Let your body heal. Enjoy yourself, learn to live with the band :)

I know that when my turn comes, I'll definitely be taking a good amount of time! I'm sure the surgery will make my fibro flare (stress to the body always does) and will probably have to hold my RA med that month too so will be feeling a big painful mess!

But I agree, nurses are the worst patients! In rehab I seem to get a lot of nurses both working and retired, and most are definitely NOT the best patients! :)

I wear the Cherokee Flexible tops, love them!!!!!

I'm ok with tops, it's pants that are an issue. Ugh. How do their pants fit?

In california I go to smartscrubs. They have the coolest designs. Most tops and bottoms go from xxs to xxxl. They are mostly online and catalog. See the web site and order a caalog. Plus, they are made to really wear a long time. Hundreds of patterns , especially for the holidays. I love them.

Thanks, I'll look them up! Are they comfy?

Try Cherokee Core Stretch. They're made with a little bit if spandex which makes moving and bending so much easier. There sole at most uniform stores, but uf you want a big selection of colors, try online.

smartscrubs are very comfy because of the sizes available.

I realize now maybe I should have posted my uniform question in the nurses group, but the group doesn't seem to be getting much traffic still. Anyhoo, I have tried several on at stores. The Core Stretch is a bit tight in the thighs in a 2x but worse it rides too low in back. They didn't have any in 3x I could try. I like the Cherokee Luxe most so far, of course they are more expensive :) The 2x again, is a bit snug in the thigh. They had a 3x which was nice and roomy but too long. I could have the hemmed but it's cheaper and easier to just order the shorter cut online. I hate to spend the money since I am hoping to be banded in a few months (if all goes well with my insurance) but my black scrub pants I have now are worn in the thighs from rubbing. Sigh.....

I'm an lpn and new in my lapband journey. Right now I'm working from home. I've done all my meetings with the dietitian, physiologist, and psychologist. Now I'm waiting on my insurance to approve it. I'm so worried because I have Medicaid. My job doesn't offer insurance crazy isn't it? But anyways I'm a newbie and really praying this goes through.

I'm an LPN in LTC. Im taking 3 weeks off because I'm constantly dragging around a huge medcart, picking people up off the floor, and getting them dressed/undressed. My side is still sore and I'm afraid to do heavy lifting. We're always short staffed & everyone is stressed so I would f Wang to bother then to do my work, although I know they would.

Also, truth be told, I was getting burnt out so I wanna milk this a little bit lol ;)

Karie1275, my work does have insurance BUT it doesn't include vision or dental. How ridiculous that I used to work as a cashier and had top rate insurance, but now in healthcare I have to pay a fortune to deal with my eyes and teeth.

Lol what is "f Wang" in my post.

What I meant was "I'd feel bad" to bother them

That's nuts! Yeah I do chart audits for insurance companies. I think its crazy how we work in healthcare but can't get healthcare. I know a lot of other nurses in the same boat.

Fellow nurses.....I am looking for some scrubs in my size and having a hard time finding things that feel comfortable to me. The cute stylish scrubs are typically fit for "junior" plus sizes which are big, yes, but don't do as much to accommodate my baby-bithin' hips ;)

What I have now are draw string with side pockets (not the unisex kind) which are nice because you can loosen or tighten the string....but find that that ride high in the front and low in the back...esp when I am sitting. I am in a 2x and to get into something more comfortable in that particular style I am having to go up a size, and even then it's not great!

Do you have specific brands that you feel fit plus size well? Where do you buy them?

I buy the Landau pants with cargo pockets from Uniform Advantage on line - they're great. UA has plenty of (roomy) tops, too, many cute ones on sale often. Hope that helps ! :)

So I am in the final stages of the pre-op process and was wondering if there are many nurses who have had this surgery. Specifically' date=' OR nurses.....I'm curious as to how long you had to be off work. I know they say it depends on what you do for a living as to how long you will be off work and I'm trying to plan my time off and such. Just curious

Hi I am a nurse and had the lap band surgery Oct 19 this year. It was kinda scary but at the same time I was excited. When I woke up from surgery my very 1st thought was "what dis I do?" for a split second...now almost 2 months later Im so glad I did it, for myself and my son. I thank God for my experience so far no complications and definitely no regrets. Recovery for me was a breeze, sigh of relief!

Just follow your doctors advice and communicate with him/her and the clinic staff you'll do great! Good luck!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
