What Happened to Me? Help!

Recommended Posts

Not a very good day. I felt full and kind of sore all day. Decided I wanted to try mushies for the first time....was banded a week ago.

I got this horrible pain...tried to walk it off...then had to fight to keep from throwing up. Then I got the most horrible hiccups I have EVER had, one after the other. Then I got a little better, sat on the couch and put a heating pad on my tummy. I feel better right now than I have all day.

I've been taking my gas-x. I don't feel like I am getting enough calories or Water, but I keep sipping and I get so full feeling.

Any body got any suggestions? 16 oz of water and about 200 calories with 15 grams of protien in a whole day just does not seem like enough. I'm not hungry and I have no fill.

It takes time, Just try to keep sipping, try your best to get more protien and Water in. It's amazing how little the body can survive on.

At least your not hungry.

You still have swelling, that's why you had pain eating. Hiccups are very common for banders, but they should'nt hurt too much.

Your still a baby bandster, take it easy.

Mushies were OK for me a week post-op. They haven't given me any problems. It sounds like you got something stuck, but don't be afraid to try mushies again b/c of this.

What did you eat?

I agree with Wheetsin, don't be afraid to try mushies again, just don't try them again for a little while. Wait until you are hungry, if needed. If you can get all of your nutrition in from liquids, you are better off right now, because you are swollen, both from surgery and from your little "ordeal". I can't stress "Slow down" enough. Slow down drinking, both in how much at a time and how quickly you drink, and slow down in your thinking about what you "should" be eating or drinking. Everyone is different. Your pain and painful hiccups and need to vomit and discomfort are your body telling you to wait on mushies. You need nutrition, get it in liquid form for now. Sloooow down. Embrace the "no hunger" feeling. You'll be wanting to eat in no time. You will feel better getting in some protien, just do it in liquid form for now. That's my advice. I wish I had listened when people bopped me on the head with this info when I was first banded! Good luck!

It all depends on swelling and healing. If you have pain I would definately lay off the mushies.

Your tummy needs time to heal and the band needs time to rest in the right spot, it has a hard time doing that if you are digesting "food".

Best of luck to you! It does get easier!

Thanks for the help everyone! My Dr & his asst. asked for a good website. I was his first patient for the program here at St. Vincent's in Jacksonville FL (not his first ever though). I gave them this site to give those that follow me.

I feel MUCH better and its liquid, liquid, liquid for me for a few more days and try it again.

I couldn't have even thought of mushies at just one week out. It took until the end of week three to start wanting mushies. Maybe you're too swollen still to start mushy food at one week out. I would commit to liquids for another week at least and then see if you feel hungry. Of course, the very best thing is to follow doctor's instructions. My doctor wanted me to stay on liquids for four weeks but three weeks and two days out, I called and begged to start mushies. They said yes and now I'm doing just fine.

vlb: My doctor said full liquids for 3 weeks post-op THEN mushies. After reading everyone's comments here, and getting a gelcap stuck (didn't let it soften up long enough) I'm in no hurry to push it.

susan unsal: Doc told me Slim Fast is not a good choice for Protein. To much sugar, carbs and fat to be a useful tool. Look for twice the amount of Protein grams, or more, as carbohydrate grams. For instance, Body Fortress has 20 grams of protein with 3 grams of carbs - thats a good source of protein. Isopure has 40 grams of protein with 0 grams of carbs. That's an EXCELLENT source of protein. You should also avoid soy protein. Your body cannot utilize most of the protein and the part it can't absorb moves into your bowel undigested and creates gas and bloat. whey protein isolates is the best protein suppliment for your body. Once again, Isopure wins, hands down.

Hope this makes sense, good luck to you.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
