In Need Of A Buddy, No Support At Home

These threads sound just like me. I am getting banded 10/8 and I haven't told my boyfriend or family. I actually told them I am having my gallbladder out. I'm so afraid of them not understanding. Or them saying that I haven't tried hard enough. I have. I don't know what to say to them. I just need someone who understands what I'm going through. Please.... In desperate need of a friend......

You have bunches of understanding friends here!! I did finally tell my boyfriend a week ago.

It went better than I could have imagined. I think it was b/c he knows I have been busting butt at the gym and watching what I eat for awhile now. I explained the health goals & my comorbids, told him I "should" be 160.

He likes "thick" women and kinda scoffed at the 160, but I told him that was not my goal- which is 180. I told him a had a LONG way to go to get there. It isn't, for me, a failure if I don't get skinny. I just want to work on being closer to healthy.

Bottom line, as it got closer I knew I couldn't live with the lie of omission - and trust me, I was determined to try up until 10 days ago.

He was supportive of the preop diet & always supporting my hours at the gym. In the end I had to trust that he loves me & wants me healthy.

My surgery is Wednesday, but I am going to continue here on the board. PLEASE feel free to DM me anytime!!

I totally understand.......majority of my family feels like this is unnecessary and that I need to try harder. I have tried everything and nothing really works for me. I just explain nicely that this is all about and for me. You can message me anytime and we can support each other! Best of luck!!!

I am getting banded and I'm just wondering if life continues after.I don't mind eating less at every meal but I'm worried that it sounds as though I'll be drinking smoothies for the rest of my life and no longer eating anything solid.what type of foods can be enjoyed after the band ( of course in moderation).

Andrew,

You may be on liquids and soft foods during the healing period, but the goal is actually to have you eating three small meals per day. The key is taking small bites, chewing very well, and understanding when to stop eating. Your doctor will discuss this with you at some point, but they do not want you getting your nourishment and Protein strictly from smoothies and shakes. You will start off slowly with foods such as fish and very moist chicken, but you will indeed be able to eat other Proteins as you progress. It will be a learning curve for you, but you will do just fine!

Dennis

As Dennis said, you will be fine. There is an adjustment to learn to eat slower, chew, chew and chew your food but definitely not smoothies here on out. I eat pretty much the same foods as everyone else. I just cannot do dry (overcooked) meat and sometimes bread gets me. I have chicken, steak, etc. :)

I am getting my band August 31' date=' 2012 and it is a done deal, I was excited and now I have major doubts. It doesn’t help that my loved ones closest to me have the same doubts as I now do.

I have told two people my mom (just in passing so she doesn’t know I am doing it in 11 days) and my boyfriend. Both never had weight issues, super healthy and fitness freaks.

I have never really shared my weight struggles and agony with my boyfriend so he just thinks I haven’t tried hard enough, that I am quick to give up a lot. Maybe he is right and maybe this will not work and I will be out of a lot of money.

I am looking to not do this alone and have someone that understands weight gain and loss. Who understand why I am doing this and we can support each other to be successful.[/quote']

I'm willing to be your support I been banned 2 years still struggling its hard I don't have much support either hubby brings me junk and I love to cook & sweets big problem because they go down so easy. But we can help each other.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
