I'm Brand New....and Need Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm Jessica. I just got the lapband slapped around my stomach on july 27th. I've all ready had my post-op visit and quite frankly, I'm a bit on the miserable side. For the first few weeks after my surgery I didn't feel hungry. But now that I've healed for the most part, I find myself being constantly hungry. Of course, when I do eat, I'm not eating just a cup of something. It's way more than that. I feel as though I haven't even had the surgery and I'm gaining the 16 pounds I had lost during the liquid phase. Has anyone else gone through this?? I've called my doctor to get a fill (which I am absolutely terrified of) and I have to wait a couple more weeks.

Ugh...if anyone can help me through this tough time...please do! I would appreciate it greatly.

-jess.

Your story is told nearly every day and sometimes several times a day. You're in "bandster hell". They don't put much saline in the band at surgery because they want you to heal before they start tightening the screws(fills) on your band. So, right now your band is wide open and if you lose weight it's all on your own. Nearly every bandster has gone through what you are going through.

Of course, no one told you about this before surgery right? Dirty little secret. But, this will pass as you start getting fills and feel some restriction. I was in bandster hell for 3.5 months so I know what you are going through. Eat nutritious foods as much as possible. Follow your doctors orders as closely as you can.

I personally didn't really diet much during BH. But, I wasn't able to eat nearly as much due to the band I believe, so I didn't gain, and didn't lose either. It does get better but right now it really sucks I know.

I'm in the same boat Jessica.. I was banded on Aug. 1st... I am struggling not to eat like I used to. And beating myself up because I am failing. I feel like I did all those other times I started all gungho on a diet... weight watchers, atkins.. blah blah blah... and then ... two weeks later... TOTAL FAILURE! I am trying to stay focused.. and repeating my mantra... first fill.... first fill first fill.... sigh.

Oh, man...I remember that phase!! Keep on going, it gets better!!! Once you get a couple of fills in that band it will all makes sense!! For now do the best you can to watch what you eat, control your carb and caloric intake and begin exercising (it really makes a big difference!!) Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
