My experience wasn't bad at all. Some places will numb you before they do the fill but mine didn't and honestly I didn't need to be numbed. I barely felt the needle go in at all. He did dig around for a minute til he found the port though and while that wasn't painful it did feel strange. I only got .5cc put in my band my first fill. after the fill I had to drink a cup of Water to make sure I went down ok before they would let me leave the office. I also had to go on a liquid diet for 48 hours after my fill.

I had my first fill last thursday. The Nurse asked me to lay down face up and while she was talking to me she was feeling my belly and she found the port like in 4 seconds. She asked me to lift my t-shirt and she gave me 5cc. I didn't feel a thing.

I had my first fill yesterday. Didn't hurt even with two needle pokes.. I had no numbing, but could sense the surgeon jiggling the needle around a bit. Surgeon under X-ray inserted 2 c.c of Fluid. After I sat up and drank a few sips, I had a lot of pain in my chest and felt rather uncomfortable. Surgeon took out 0.5. While lying down the Water came back up. Really glad I told him then and there it was uncomfortable.

Did you guys do any preparations before getting your fill? I ask my doctor he said I don't have to do anything special. I'm doing it on my lunch break. So scared!

I rang and asked the same regarding preparation. I was told nothing special needed to be done. I had my adjustment at 11.45 am.

I did however make sure I had Breakfast that morning, as I had a fairly intense spin class on later that afternoon. I also made sure I had a Protein shake with me as my main meal that afternoon, given i was told to go back to liquids for 24 hrs and follow that up with 24 hrs of mushies

I also called my doctor and he told me not to do anything out of the ordinary and to go on liquids for 24 hours after the fill.

I know there are some bad experiences out there, but they're not the norm, don't be afraid, you already did the hard part. Keep us posted.

I'm gonna go on liquids 24 hours before and not eat anything that morning. I want my pouch empty.

I had my first fill on Monday.... thought I was just going in for a follow up and didn't have time to eat anything beforehand, except my Protein Drink. But my doctor said everything looked good (I'm a month post-op) and we could do a fill. The fill procedure went off without a hitch and I held down the Water just fine. I was told to go back to Clear Liquids for 48 hours. But I was STARVING and I had too many things scheduled in my planner (plus being a single mom of a big family) and only went 24 hrs on liquids.... I needed more nutrition than that! lol I went back to soft foods in small bites last night and I feel fine. My doctor gave me 5 cc's for my first fill. I keep expecting some adverse side effects or discomfort but so far, so good. Which is a good thing because I don't have time available in my schedule for that mess. lol I think the key is to pace yourself and go slow. Give your body time to adjust and expect the best. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
