Ok my friends, today I found out that my insurance IS covering the surgery .........so I am now a definate go !! Had all my pats, have my pre-op appointment for next Wed the 3rd and my surgery is the 8th.........WOW I am sooooooo excited ! We are going on a cruise with 14 family members in Nov. to Celebrate my Dads 80th BD and 6 I won't see until then because we are on the east coast and they are West, so I am hoping to have at least 40 off by then (8 months).....is that unrealistic ?? I have only told my 3 closest friends and of course my DH and my sons.........I want to be successful before I start to talk about it. I am so happy that I have a support group for that reason and you all have been so very much help. I am so ready for this life change, how could i fail ? !!

Hi! Congrats on getting your surgery date and getting your insurance to pay for it!

My surgery is also scheduled for March 8th, with my pre-op physical on the 3rd

8 months is 32 weeks- at the average 1-2 lbs a week, you should be really close to -40lbs!

Where are you having your surgery at? Do you have to do a pre-op diet at all?

Good Luck!

Melissa

Hi Melissa, I am in Nj and my surgery will be at Monmouth Medical Center. I assume we will find out about a pre-op diet on the 3rd --if there is one. I know with By-pass there is but I don't remember what the dietican said at our meeting. I can't believe it is less than 2 weeks away !! I am so excited !!GOOD LUCK TO US !! karen

Congratulations to those of you who are awaiting your surgery dates. I know how it feels to have a date and the anticipation of its arrival. My daughter and I had our bands put in this past Friday and we are doing fine. I have to admit we are hungry though and our stomachs growl a lot. The doctor won't do a fill for 4-6 weeks allowing time for everything to heal first. I quit smoking Friday morning too so I'm battling two things instead of one but hey...it's not that bad. Hang in there and your day will be here before you know it. Good Luck on your journey :D

I've lost 8 or 9 lbs in 5 days.

Topsy,

I wish you great luck on kicking the habit, that can be tough. You said that you are both hungry. I am trying to find out as much as I can about this before I do it. I guess you are still on a liquid diet. Does drinking something help with the hunger feeling??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
