Good morning all! I am 27 yo and confused at this point. FIrst, I started off wanting this procedure done.. Then my surgeon said by my bmi being 57 I wouldn't lose what I want so he suggested the gastric sleeve. I have read about how hard it is to drink and as a result being dehydrated, dumping and all that. Is there anyone on here who had the lap band with a bmi over 55? If so, how is it working out for you?

Hello and welcome!

My BMI was 72 when I got the Lap Band. That was about 7 months ago. My BMI is now 49 and I've lost 131 pounds so far. I am about half way to my goal. Needless to say, I am thrilled with my band. It's the best decision I've ever made for myself.

You most certainly can lose the weight you need to with the band as long as you're committed not to a diet, but to changing your eating habits to healthy ones for a lifetime.

Best wishes to you.
