Feedback On Plication With Band.

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve, and tbh, plication scares the heck out of me. One of the main reasons I went with the sleeve is because of the super low rate of complications. While looking into plication I found too many cases where the folded over stomach lost blood flow and had to be removed. Also the sutures on the plicated stomach tend to migrate the final nail in the coffin for me was when I learned that plication, originally thought to be reversible, was proving not to be. All of this and then plication by itself does not produce the weightloss that the sleeve does.

Well, I didn't know any of that, very interesting. Well, it's great you did your research and it sounds like you made the right decision for yourself.

Wow didn't know that.

Thanks for the info

Lapband is reversible to an extent but is likely to leave some sort of lasting damage.

I would imagine that plication is not reversible because scar tissue and adhesions will form where the stomach is folded in on itself.

Sleeveing is definitely not reversible - once the stomach is cut off and thrown away it is gone.

Having said that most of us are looking for a permanent weight control solution, we do not normally do it because we want it reversed.

Can't understand why having a sleeve would scare someone less than a plication but then we all have different fears and different things that we are/aren't prepared to do to achieve our goals.

i had the band and plication and am super glad i did.

it makes me feel full after about 4 oz of food.

per my surgeon, the blood loss part occurs if the plication is up near the banding. if its

done down lower, the risk is less. there was no way in hell i was gonna cut my stomach/intestines. that was just something i was not comfortable doing.

it seems to be working for me and i highly recommend to anyone who asks me.

and fyi, all wls surgeries have risks. even the sleeve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
