What To Wear Home?

Recommended Posts

I have to fly from San Diego back home to New York 24 hours after surgery.

What should I wear? Would sweatpants be too tight? I don't really want to wear a dress.....Ideas?

Now this is what worked for me. I'm short waisted and a couple of my small incisions were in my bra band line and my port incision was right where my waist band sat. So, for the first week I wore mostly cotton yoga pants and capris and tucked the front underneath my stomache. I wore long enough shirts that it was not noticeable. I also wore a front closure bra and left the bottom couple hooks un hooked.

24 hours post op, you are really going to want to go for comfort so make sure everything is soft fabric and loose. I had a lot of left shoulder pain and it felt better if I kept it covered and warm, as for me it felt not so much like gas pain as muscle soreness. Make sure you have a nice fleece jacket or small fleece blanket you can throw over you if you get cool. I found this to be necessity. Also, I would take a pain pill half hour before boarding.

Good luck. You'll feel so much better once you get home to your own bed. You will be wiped out after your trip, so plan on getting rest.

Too bad you can't wait another day or two before flying. I assume you can't avoid this trip so soon after surgery.

I would wear loose sweats that have a lot of room at the waistband. Carry a small pillow with you to hold over your incisions and don't forget your pain meds. Please be prepared if the meds cause you an upset stomach. Hydration is important, particularly on an airplane, so get a bottle of H2O to sip.

The San Diego airport is not that big, but I would still get a wheelchair to get you to the gate.

I wish you the best.

U might want to get some if those thermo heat pads for your shoulders that's where my gas pain was when u get home you can use a regular heat pad that seems to have been my saving grace

I agree with what's been said. Also - flip flops so you don't have to bend over to take them off at security. Trust me that is the LAST thing you want to do a day after surgery!!

That is going to be one LONG day. Wow. Get big and drawstring if you can, the adjustablity might be well served. Right now, it is HOT in San Diego, sweats might be miserable getting TO the airport. August is one of our hotter months.

If you are not too big on top, I'd just do a couple layers of tank tops with a loose t-shirt over that and forget the bra.

Oh, ask for wheel chair assistance. Call the airline to set it up in advance. DON'T be standing in those lines. They will take you right to the front, and take you from gate to gate when you change planes.

Thanks all....flip flops(or in my case clogs, because I can't stand things between my toes), no bra, yoga pants, loose shirt, zip up fleece, shoulder heat thing, wheelchair assistance. Check and check!
