Head Hunger/emotional Eating Etc Etc

Recommended Posts

I think I'm finally at restriction! Yay! However clearly I'm a food addict and I'm obsessing about stuff I can get down but shouldn't (ice cream/crackers etc). How did you successful people get over this or get in control of this? Self help book? Therapy? I'm ready to try anything. I'm on this journey till I win the battle :)

Thanks!!

if i wanted to eat ice cream or crackers, id choose ff ice cream or low fat crackers (they have small 100 calorie servings). so if i want something, i eat it, just smaller amounts and every so often.

Whenever I'm tempted to eat something that I know will not help in my weight loss I remind myself that I let an almost complete stranger (credentials set aside for these purposes) stab me in the abdomen 5 times and wrap a piece of plastic around my stomach. I know it is crude and simplistic but it works for me.

I cannot wrap my head around the whole "head hunger" as opposed to real hunger. To me that is like saying "it's not hot, it's just the humidity." Hot is hot and hunger is hunger. I would just limit myself to small amounts if you can't control yourself. Good luck!

I put myself on a strict diet when first banded and my NUT convinced me that it can't be a diet and that you have to truly enjoy what you eat or you won't be satisfied and being satisfied helps with the cravings. If I have to have ice cream, I have one bite, if I have to have chocolate, I have one bite. I love cheese and have found I like Cabot 75% RF cheddar cheese with Special K multi-grain crackers. They are the best! 24 is 120 calories, so I eat 1/2 ounce of cheese with 4-6 crackers. It is a great snack! Also Laughing Cow lite Swiss spreadable is only 30 calories. You just have to find stuff that makes you happy and satisfies those salty cravings, crunchy cravings, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
