1St Day Of Pre Op Diet And Question About Sils

Recommended Posts

I too started my pre-op diet this week. It has been tough and some HOURS are better than others. I have slipped twice, but have still managed to drop almost 8 pounds since Monday! Keep your head up and try to stick with it as best as you can. I am sure most of us have been eating like this for several years, if not several decades. Its not an easy thing to get over, however you can do what ever you put your mind to . Stay strong!!

Don't feel bad...every doctor has his and hers own way of young the pre op diet . Dr. Pham lets people eat for his diet. so his point his that you don't get more than 600 call a day. my preop goes like this: shake for Breakfast, shake and snack for lunch, small snack then dinner... dinner is 4 oz. chicken or beef or fish and a cup of green vegs...snacks are cottage cheese.oatmeal.or appliance cup. So all in all don't feel bad you had some food.< /p>

Yesterday was my pre-op appointment and today I started my pre-op diet (surgery is Sept 4). Since I have gained 13 lbs since my initial appointment, my pre-op diet is 4 shakes a day (Bariatric Advantage). I get a shake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I will have another one before bed. However, I just slipped and had 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese :( Sigh. I feel so discouraged. Like if I can't even do one day, how am I going to make it until surgery (and after!) Any advice or support is appreciated!

Another question though, anyone here have the single incision procedure? Were you pleased with it? My surgeon says this is an option for me but that I really have to shrink my liver as much as possible before surgery (hence the super restrictive pre-op diet!)

Don't get real discouraged, the self dissapointment i think is worse. I am getting banded on Monday the 28th. I have not been 100% good. Everytime i gave in to the temptation i would honestly get so upset with myself I would vomit, didn't enduce the vomit but i would get so anxious. In the grand scheme of things that little bit of cottage cheese isnt going to do much. Try as hard as you can to stay true. It is very hard. add oenut butter to the shakes, or some fruit. I found the best tasting shake is to use some chocolate protien powder, ice, Water, and some coconut greek yogurt, its like an almond joy.

Hang in there, don't give up. Don't be like me. i regret my decisions and now am in a better mind set, but i wonder if it was too little to late. You dont want that on your mind. Hang tough, the first week is the worse, it gets a little better each day, and be concious of the situations you put yourself in. If your going to be around people or events where there is large amounts of food, maybe stay home or meet up with them after dinner. Best of luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
