I think unsweetened & no sugar added is the same thing. That being said , things could still have natural sugars in them like can fruit. No sugar would be called sugar free.< /p>

I could be wrong but thats how I undetstood it.

Yes, I agree with Mis73. If up until now you have not been a nutritional label reader, now is a great time to get into the habit. You will be surprised what you sometimes discover about what's in the package.

There are hidden carbs and increased levels of sodium in many processed foods. As part of my healthier eating habits, I try to stay away from processed foods, as the additives read like a chemistry book.

Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, and basic lean Proteins are my focus. I only shop the periphery of the grocery store, in the produce, dairy and meat sections, skipping the bakery. That way I know what I'm eating...

No sugar added is definitely better than sugar added but there is often still carbs and some sort of sugar in the product. For example, I am drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast - no sugar added. It is much less calories than the regular but still has carbs and 70 calories per packet (I believe). It is a good alternative just have to know there are still calories and carbs in it.

No sugar added means they did'nt add any. As previously mentioned an ingredient may intrinsically have sugar. fruit at the bottom of my 0% fat Greek yogurt contains natural sugar. Personally not worried about that. Considering I used to eat half a bag of mini Dove bars in one setting.

And sometimes they don't consider fructose or corn Syrup as sugar and we all know it's sugar by another name.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
