Gas As Soon As I Drink Anything

Recommended Posts

It's Friday and I was banded Monday, so I guess I would call it day 5. I've had tons of gas, not just 'surgical' gas, but swelling gas when I drink anything. I just woke up and made a cup of tea, with skimmed milk and artificial sweetener. I've drunk maybe half and I feel swollen and uncomfortable already. Am I drinking too much? I can't figure out how to get in enough fluids if it is. Any thoughts? Thanks :)

my stomach has a lot of air that I'm trying to move down so each sip feels like I'm pigging out I'm going to walk around Walmart and by some milk of mag(no BM yet) I hope it helps not extremely painful but very uncomfortable

I know the feeling. I was banded wen and I too feel a little bloated after I drink Water. I am.walking a bit more. Its a little painful. It may be because we are still swollen.on the insides.

I'm walking plenty, actually have to be careful not to overdo. We have a farm so I keep finding little things to do, like collect eggs. You'd think it would be no big deal, but the nurses almost had a fit when they called to check up on me and I mentioned it. Sigh.... I feel like this is a weird transition period- no longer the build up and excitement of pre surg and not quite post surg (to me that is when you are all healed and good to go), just sore, swollen, sometimes hungry (smelling all the good food cooking) and then again worried about everything I put in my mouth. Like I said, weird time.

Hey and buddies I'm on day 3- Little sips is key. (per doc;) my clears don't include milk products yet, I'm jealous. Lol

Real sore today cause I got in some good comfy sleep last night. As today goes on I'm plan on lots of little walks. I have some bloating, and some burping. Not to much gas below yet though. I'm sure it'll come. Good luck all. This is the best site!! So glad to not be alone through all this!!

See how different each doc is. Mine says no to little sips, he says to take a mouthful of liquid and swallow it. He says you get less air that way. And don't be jealous, I'm on full liquids. Yesterday was the first day being able to have milk in my tea! A big deal to me for sure!

I'm two weeks post op... and I can tell you enjoy the feeling of fullness and restriction, it goes away very quickly. I am getting progressively hungry and still have two weeks till my first fill appt. now I am really on a strict liquid/food intake.. I plot my intake hourly, when I drink Water, when I drink my shakes... its crazy, but I know that the fill will help. As for the gas.. when I first had the surgery, air gave me gas. ha.. that goes away..

Oh No Mr Bill! I hadn't thought about the hunger once the swelling goes down! Right now I have to remind myself to eat something- I'm not looking forward to the other side of the coin!

I'm in the same place banded Monday. Lots of gas mainly burping no bm yet been taking the liquid Colace to try to get things moving along with my dairy that usually helps. I notice lots of air with big drinks or little drinks. i've been burping myself by pushing gently on my lower abdomin. warm liquids are best room temp seem to upset my tummy.

The pain is improving; now its sitting up and bending over are my biggest challenges. i've been able to drop pain meds to only 1 and every 8 hour as long as I don't over do those 2 activities.

a few more days and we will all feel a lot better.

Did you try the tea without milk and still get bloated? I have not heard this from a doctor, but I have read, that sometimes people become lactose intolerant after lap band. I thought I was running into that problem after surgery and found out that whey Protein was not getting along with my body, I found some alternatives and all is good. Before surgery, I had no problem with whey protein. Just a thought.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
