Greetings to all. I have followed many discussions for a few weeks now. Finally decided to join. My surgery date is 07 Sep. a tad concerned seeing as my Dr advised me to start Protein Shakes 2 weeks ago. I started 10 days ago and have lost 17 pounds. It has been tough and I truly miss real food. Seems no one here is on Protein diet for this long a time?

Welcome to the forum...

One of the major topics you will notice through time is that different surgeons will have their own preferred treatment protocol. The instructions given to their patients will vary.

It's always the best idea to consult with your surgeon for questions.

Best wishes as your journey begins...

I have had a couple of cucumbers and other raw veggies over the past 10 days. I have had 2 salads with just greens and a tablespoon of dressing. Oh... And I cheated once and had a very small bowl of spaghetti sauce, NO Pasta though! Finding it tough.

Hey Bruce....I remember that liquid diet! I had to do it for 2 weeks pre op. I definitly understand your pain. After the 1st week you will be ok...it becomes a habit. Good luck on your journey. :-)

Champion nutrition whey. I prefer vanilla. It's not bad and quite filling. Probably because I've been drinking it for 10 days. Price is reasonable as well. All relative...I know, but I paid $70 for two 2lb containers. 26 servings per

I have been on a modified liquid diet for a week now my surgery is on Sept 10th I have to go all liquid in ten day for 2 weeks so I am trying to get a jump on it. So far its not to bad I do have Soup in the evening but mostly shakes and a yogurt.during the day. I also have been exercising really hard to be in the best shape i can be in for the surgery. Can anyone tell me how long it will be before I can continue exercising after the surgery. The good thing is I have lost 45 pounds so far and should lose 10 more before surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
