What Happens If Your Band Is Filled Up?

Recommended Posts

I had my last fill at the beginning of the year. I still haven't hit my goal and seem to be struggling. What do I do if I can no longer get fills and utilize this tool for my weight loss?

Make it work with what you got I guess.

I mean obviously you eat a lot less, exercise more???

.1cc can make all the difference in the world tho once you are close to your "zone".

My band is about half full, I don't forsee any further fills in my near future. I went 14 months between my last fill.

Funny how different it is for each of us.

How much have you got in your band? I've read on here that everybody reaches restriction at different levels of fill. I've not heard of anyone being completely full; if that was the case, seems you wouldn't be able to eat at all.

If you're nearing the fill limit of your band, I'd ask yourself some questions:

-Are you expecting the band to make you feel stuffed full?

-Are you expecting the band to restrict how much you eat?

-Are you expecting the band to limit the types of food you eat?

If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then you're expecting something out of the band it's not meant to do. If you're striving for any of these things you could easily end up with an over-filled band and risk a slip because of it.

The band is supposed to make you feel satisfied (or not hungry) on less food for longer periods of time. Nothing more.

If you're eating healthy and not expecting things out of the band it's not meant to do, then I would talk to your surgeon and see what your options are.

Best wishes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
