Sunta 5 Posted March 20, 2006 Hi! I got permission to start mushies five days early and have been really enjoying myself. I wanted to share some ideas for anyone on the mushy phase. Here is what I've enjoyed so far: Hummus Baba Ganoush Labne (middle eastern yogurt) Indian vegetable croquettes (mushed up) Indian lentils and rice blended in the blender Indian saag paneer (totally blended spinach and soft cottage cheese; SO delicious!!!) Indian sweet lime pickle (the Syrup only mmmm mmmm) chicken croquettes (mushed up) Mashed potatoes tuna salad Blended beef stew Blended Soups (all different varieties) I have really enjoyed eating out several times at the middle eastern restaurant, the Indian restaurant, and the diner! So, everyone on mushies, check out the ethnic places near you because there are some amazing offerings!!!
Wheetsin 714 Posted March 20, 2006 I hadn't even thought of hummus. I make my own (mom's side is Greek), so it's extremely low-fat and extremely high in protien. Mmm, thanks for the reminder - I know what ingredients I'm buying at the store tonight. I'm not a refriend bean fan, but I did find one that's REALLY good. It's made by Rosarita and it's "Chile and Lime" flavor. Add some tabasco, jalapeno juice, and a little red sauce, and it's just downright awesome.

swatkins 0 Posted March 23, 2006 I was banded 12 days ago and just got approved for mushies. I am finding hummus to be wonderful! (although I liked it before I was banded too) My wife found something called PAPADUMS indian style Snacks. They are made from Fava Bean flour and you can find them at Trader Joe's. They are little cracker type things that really go down easy with hummus. (and they have 4g of Protein per serving) They have just the right crunch but all but dissolve in your mouth after that. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents. Shawn 12 days post op, 13 pounds lost 67 to go!
lildarlin 0 Posted March 25, 2006 You can have crackers during the mushy phase? I'm thinking because they turn to mush when they melt in your mouth.....I love hummus and was sitting here wondering what I could eat them with. A cracker would be wonderful! Not banded yet, but thinking of the possibilities! Thanks
Wheetsin 714 Posted March 25, 2006 You know - I have a really bad habit of losing threads. I just now saw the recipe request. It's not a formal recipe, more something I watched my mom make (also without a recipe) enough times that you just do it... I guess like farm wives and their apple pies. Were heading out now but I will do my best to translate the recipe on paper and post it. It's yummy!
sparkling 0 Posted March 25, 2006 still no mushies for me yet ... but thanks for the ideas.. something to look forward to
swatkins 0 Posted March 25, 2006 You want to be careful not to eat just any crackers though... Carbs will STILL come up and bite you! I am tolerating everything very well and my band has helped me feel satiated. I always eat my flaky Protein first (albacore, halibut, chicken) before I go to the hummus or cottage cheese. It has helped me to have these "safer" foods on hand so that I dont grab a cookie or eat what is left on my kid's plates.
