I Made A Huge Mistake And It Was Not A Good Outcome!

Recommended Posts

So it is day 7 of my pre-op diet and it's getting better. I have a really cool glass that mixes drinks and have been using it at work. Well today, for some reason I was not paying attention and I accidentally tiped it over and spilled my shake. I take the powder for 3 shakes, 1 in the morning, 1 for lunch and 1 for the mid-day snack. I was pretty upset and didn't think of using the rest of the powder so I opted to go to the cafetria and get me some Soup. They had poblano soup which is very creamy and asked for a small cup of it, bad idea! About 1/2 an hour later, I could feel my intestines and stomach churning and off I went to the ladies room. I was in and out ALL DAY today and felt horrible. My bowels have been up and down this 7 days and it's very furstrating. I called the Dr office today and the nutrionist told me not to take any Pepto, Immodium, etc... I know it was the soup since it was very creamy so it had to have milk and I haven't had milk in the last 4 months. Believe me, lesson has been learned!!!

The preop diet is not really about the liquids. It's about high Protein, low carb. In the future I would recommend chicken breast or turkey lunch meat (plan no cheese or mayo) and plain veggies instead of a cream based Soup.< /p>

I was just wondering, why is that? I thought the liver stores fats, so wouldn't a lowfat diet be better? Where does the low carbs/high protein fit iin with the liver?

The Dr wanted me to do all shakes and nothing else. When I called yesterday to find out if i could take pepto, the nutrionist told me i can substitute one shake for 4 ozs of meat, which i have done and boy do i feel better. I save my 4 ozs for dinner, so i can have it with my hubby and the shakes at work.

I feel so much much better today! YAY!

The body prefers to burn carbs. If you cut out carbs the body is forced to look for Protein and then fat. If you are only drinking 500 cals of Protein Shakes a day your body will forced to burn fat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
