Congratulations on trying to explore this issue with those around you. Even postOp you will encounter people who will somehow determine they have the right to give their opinion whether asked or not.

One of the liberating aspects of making good informed decisions is learned to train our own Rational Mind instead of allowing our Emotional Belly run our lives.

Research, read, discuss, ask questions.....it gets down to what you, your medical condition, and your doctor decide is the best choice.

It took me nearly 2 years of vacillation, frustration, anxiety and visiting a number of WLS support groups live, to decide. And in 2003 there weren't many Bandsters around for support of this option.

Cheers on your journey.

I see a boyfriend that'll be kicked to the curb in about 6 months.

He doesn't deserve a lady like yourself. A lady that wants to better herself an he is so ignorant. Purge yourself of this inbred, self centered, #%^#^**^%%+*.

He's afraid tht he'll lose you when you have that hot, smoking new body a. Others around will be saying HEYYYY!!!!! look at you!!!!!

I knew it. Insecurities.

Tell him to man up. A real man would be happy for his lady when it comes to something that in the long run can save your life.

Once upon a time I had a hot bod. I was into the same body type as I am now. I prefer larger men. Lol. My boyfriend is 6'3'' and about 260 lbs. The difference is that now I like NICE MEN, whereas then I liked immature, inconsiderate, lying, cheating assholes. (yes, I said this with anger and a few faces popped in my head) Lol. If he thinks that you'll leave him because you lose weight then he needs to reevaluate things and not let you being heavier be the only reason you're around right now! My honey knows that he keeps me around not because I think that he's all I can get because I'm overweight, but because he's amazing to me, for me, we have a good time, and he treats me very well, not to mention all that he does for my daughter, who isn't his own blood. I hope he can say half that about me. Regardless if I lose weight, I'll be with him because of those things.

I kind of lost track of my point here, I'm half asleep (or half awake. =P) I remember seeing you post on one of my posts and I'm glad to hear that you got approved just as quickly as myself with no pre requirements! Consider us lucky, I've heard that doesn't happen often!

My husband was not 100% psyched about the prospect of me having surgery. It was dangerous, did I really need it, etc... Well he went to a seminar with me and found out the real facts from a doctor. He realized I really did know what I was talking about and it may really be a good idea for me. He became my biggest cheerleader and one of the main reasons I was able to have the success I have had. He has been there every step of the way and has totally changed his habits as well. The thing is he is either going to have to shape up or ship out. Help him get educated about the process and why you want to have the surgery. If he still cannot support you then that is his problem, not yours. You are doing this for you and anyone who doesn't like it can kiss off!! Good luck!!

Fallon that's how my boyfriend is he.is great to me and my daughter ,which is not his eaither , and I don't want him to worry about me leaving him I am doing to to be healthy and to look better for the both of us, he is coming around a little but still a little stand-offish about it , he says he likes me just the way I am and I'm pretty how I am , but I try to explain to him I'm not happy with myself ,

I'm assuming that since you're not happy with yourself, that like me, it limits you sexually. If it's with the right person, sex is very good for you AND your relationship. That's one thing that I can't wait for, to be happy being nude again. Lol. Losing weight will give us so much! Better health, better examples for our children, smaller clothes = cheaper clothes, better self image, more self confidence. Anyways, if ya'll are sexually active and you can't get him to listen any other way, he's sure to listen about how ya'lls sex life could change, huh? Lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
