Surgery Tuesday and having some Morbid thoughts.....

Recommended Posts

Okay,I paid the hospital this past week and the lady asks if I have Living will,,,,,,,,yes I tell her. Then she says does anyone have medical power of attorney over me....yes, my hubby. She says make sure he brings that along........I'm thinking OMG does she expect something to go wrong. Also I was self pay, but at end she says make sure hubby brings her copy of insurance card,,,,,,,just in case. WTF just in case!!!!!

Now all I can think is what if I die, who will take care of my babies. What would they bury me in(I don't have a thing to wear LOL) OMG we havent done our taxes yet and I usually do them....will hubby be able to.... BLAH BLAH BLAH...Thoughts like that.

 Evil woman at Hospital.........for making me think!!!!

Please pray for me and my family this week! I am scared. I am really scared of getting sepsis (a blood infection you can get from surgery) My dad died of this on March 22, 2002..........so having my surgery on the 21st is kind of creeping me out. My mom is coming for the surgery, but we have decided not to tell my brother or sister about it since it is happening so close to the anniversary of Dad's death.

please send prayers and positive thoughts!!!!!!

Awww...I'm sorry that this upset you but she was just doing her job. I'm positive that your surgery will be fine. I also hope you have a very easy recovery. We'll see you in bandland very soon!!

Hey Jana,

Just wanted to give you a hug before I head to bed, and to tell you that what you're feeling is so normal. Some folks spend hours writing letters to loved ones, many make sure their wills are in order. It's a normal thing to want to be prepared for anything. But find hope in the fact that there are so many of us here to comfort you and encourage you - for we went through the same surgery and are doing just fine. I'm sure you will too.

I will remember to keep you in my prayers, along with your family. The anniversary of the loss of a loved one is always emotional. I can understand why you are feeling the way you are. Just try to look past Tuesday and on to all the wonderful things you have to look forward to in your life.

Oh, and by the way.. Tuesday, the 21st - very special day/date for Dawg and me. We met online and the first time we saw each other face to face was a Tuesday, the 21st (of April) and we were married on a Tuesday, the 21st (of September). Its a great day for special anniversaries. Now it will be for you as well. *hugs*

Well today, I feel a little less scared(not)

But my 4 yr old kept asking me "Is today your surgery and is daddy taking you to the hospital?" I told her no it's tomorrow. She asked this several times.

Then when I took her to preschool, she started crying and kept running back to the door to kiss me and tell me she loved me. She was crying when I left her.

Now I feel like....Wow should I do this.....but If I don't I could die from being overweight.

God I can't wait for Wednesday morning and then it will all be over with!!!!

MY nerves are killing me(makes me want to barf)

Sorry I keep talking about my fears, but I have no one else to talk to. I can't really talk to Hubby because he has never dealt well with me being sick or in the hospital. So I need you guys as my sounding board!

Thanks and hugs to all.

Your as scared as I was, believe me (read my blog...hehehe) . When they gave me those forms and asked those questions, it was on the morning of my surgery and it made my fear even worse. But they ask that of anyone undergoing a procedure.

If it makes you feel any better, your nurse was asking you pretty standard questions. I was asked 3 times if I had a living will. I think they do it standard, as a service (reminder) to people, but it certainly can give you a moment of - "Uh, why are you asking??"

I know where you are coming from.... I got the same routine and I was a private pay also. Anytime you go under anesthia there is a risk. We would be foolish to ignore this risk. In my oppinon, anytime an operation can give us more quality or quantity of life it is worth the risk.

I will be praying for you to have peace with your decission.

jtrek,

I am getting banded on tuesday also. I know just how you feel. They asked me the same question as they did you. Just hang in there and all will be well. I see you on the other side. Good luck.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
