Lori Voss Green 93 Posted August 15, 2012 My doc had me on a 2 week preop diet. For me it was a Protein Shake for Breakfast, 100 calorie snack, Protein shake for lunch, 300-350 calorie/20-25 carb dinner, then another 100 calorie snack. The main focus was to shrink the liver, but also to get used to not eating as much. I lost 12 lbs in that 2 weeks.
Lela Clark 41 Posted August 15, 2012 My op date is Aug 23. My Dr. Put me on a no carb diet. I have seen different diets that people have been on here to. I would call and see if you should be on some sort off meal plan just I case.
IcEbOx32 6 Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks- Im going to call first thing tomorrow. They did mention I cut back on fatty/ fried foods. And to eat slower and not drink and eat at the same time but no diet. I will start regardless friday to prepare my liver. Hopefully they recommend I do this anyhow.. Domika03 309 Posted August 15, 2012 My Dr's office only has me doing a clear liquid diet the day before surgery, which starts tomorrow. It's different from a lot of things I've heard other people say. I think every surgeon is different. Mine is Dr Michael Snyder in CO
Sojourner 2,446 Posted August 15, 2012 Yes, there are wide variations as to the surgeon's pre op and post op instructions for their patients. My doctor was quite strict with his expectations, including my weight at my pre op appointment. When in doubt, or have questions that relate to your medical condition, communicating with your surgeon will be the best place to get the accurate information you need. 1 Domika03 reacted to this
andrealeigh2116 4 Posted August 17, 2012 My dr. said he typically only has patients with a certain BMI do a pre-op diet. My surgery is next Friday, 8/24, and I am on a 900 calorie diet. 2 shakes, veggies, Lean Cuisine type meal for dinner. My mom is having the surgery a month after me and is not required to do the diet, but she's doing it just to help lose weight pre-surgery. It certainly doesn't hurt! IcEbOx32 6 Posted August 17, 2012 I went for my Pre-op testing today; nothing to really talk about.. (sat around for 2hrs for a ten minute thing) They did take blood and ask a few questions, weighed me as well.. I dont require a pre surgical diet. I am going to go easy this weekend to prepare me as much as I can at this point. Its going to be hard to get out of my friday routine with my hubby and son ( we usually go shopping then out to eat ) Now we need to eat dinner home and then do some shopping on sat mornings.. That way we dont feel like we could have a meal out.. ( like tonight grilled chicken and a veggie) when really I would prob. have rice and an egg roll.
