Do you eat things you shouldnt, ex: bread Pasta rice, and still lose weight? Obviously not a whole lot but you really cant get away from these things... i get a veg and chicken bowl and it comes with rice.. or a chicken sandwhich and obviously bread. Sometimes i will either skip it all together or eat a little but I'm not very restricted so i kinda feel like its not taking away from anything...

Just curious, who said you shouldn't eat Pasta, bread, and rice? Who said you couldn't eat those things and still lose weight?

The one and only thing we can't have after being banded is carbonation.

I still eat bread, Pasta, and rice daily. Potatoes, too. I just am just careful to eat them in moderation and within the guidelines my nutritionist gave me.

I eat all of those things, always have in the 2 years I've been banded.

I am an avid calorie counter and as long as I stay in my 1200 - 1400 I lose. I think logging my food and exercise has been one of the most beneficial tools in my weight loss. Really makes you think and keeps you accountable to yourself.

I agree with Mis... My doctor doesn't suggest eating breads or pastas because the believe in the low carb diet. I'm now on a midrange carb diet and still losing weight. I do on occasion have bread (no rice or Pasta yet)... But my weight loss has been gradual and steady... I have to chew chew chew, but I don't see a problem with it as long as it is in moderation!! You have to find what works best for you. Realistically the Atkins was great for my pre-op but I didn't want to set myself up for failure by not having some mid range carbs in my diet, especially since I work out 6 times a week on average. Best of luck to you and your journey!!

5/28/12 pre-op diet started (217lbs) 6/14/12 Surgery 1.8cc added to 10cc band (205lbs). 7/17/12 1st fill (194lbs). 7/24/12 (191lbs) 7/30/12 (187lbs) 8/14/12 1cc added total of 3.8cc (187)

Well my orginal dr told me not to. I guess bc of the expansion of those types of foods. I'm not sure all i know is he told me not to. My new dr doesnt say much about what I'm earing morw about how much. Although he prefers fruits and vegs(what dr doesnt lol) but i get a rash of crap for having like a beagal although i only eat one side, or a roll, ect. I know its loaded carbs but i dont eat much through out the day..

like others who have posted.......who said you are banned from those things for life??

did you sign a form with the fat fairy? (please note i am joking)

heck no. to my understanding you can eat whatever you want. but its up to you to make the right decisions on what to eat. i havent had a fill yet and from some other band experts, some say some things get stuck (bread/pasta etc) and then some it doesnt bother them......

i think its a live and learn how to eat process.

to restrict yourself is another diet. allow the band to work and make you feel full.

eat what you want and what you like (you are not on a diet) you are eating to live.

the only thing my dr said for me to stay away from is carbonation.

all the best. i am sure you will do fantastic :)

Even the carbonation is open to debate. Some Dr's allow it, others don't.

Well, I dont consider bread, rice or Pasta things I "shouldnt eat"! So yes, I eat those things regularly. Well, I hate bread to be honest, but rice and gluten free Pasta are on my menu regularly.

Do i eat chocolate, cake, Cookies, alcohol - hell yeah! Which is probably why I maintain now instead of losing. I dont eat a LOT of them, but I do eat them. I am at goal weight and have been for a fair few years now. I ate way less of those things whilst losing. But I always ate carbs - never ever did a low carb diet and I lost weight easily. So whilst some people do need to low carb it, eating occasional rice or pasta is unlikely to affect weight loss too much.

I cannot eat bread, unless its toasted. Rice and potatoes leave an unpleasant feeling and Pasta, i only eat dreamfields. Mind you... I choose not to eat those foods because they make me feel horrible. Do i eat other sliders( chips, ice cream, cookies) yes. But i only eat a small amount.

I try to not feel guilty for what some may call cheating. I no longer cheat, cause im not dieting. My lifestyle has changed and withbit the way i think.

As of yesterday, im diwn 100 pounds and this is how i did it.

The only things I don't eat are the things that cause me discomfort (or worse). That being said, Pasta, rice, bread, carbonation, and a very long list of other things cause me discomfort.

Doctor suggested trying out the problem type foods.

Small amounts , chewed well, Protein first. Know that some foods will go down easy and next day, not so much. It is trial and error, learning to eat with the band.

I don' eat turkey or chicken breast, too dry. Also, corned beef, one of my favorites, but I had my first, and hopefully last, stuck episode with corned beef!

The band helps me stay away fom doughnuts and Cookies, pastries.more of a focus on healthy, real foods.

I'm on a low but good carb diet/lifestyle. I stay away from white flour, rice, Pasta, etc because of their carb value and because they hold no nutritional value and I choose not to waste valuable eating experiences on something that will not help my system. However  my diet is not written in stone and I do partake once in a while on some things. I want to be realistic. My NUT agrees.

As for the carbonation, my posse has nothing against it. And I've been drinking it since being banded in 07. Of course, I have no saline in my band. Things might change if ever I get a fill.

Everybody is different....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
