missymobaby 23 Posted August 15, 2012 So day 3 of my pre-op diet and I think I'm having carb/sugar withdrawls. This morning as I was at my little blender from GNC mixing up my powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry Protein shake, I started getting all woozy and shakey and clammy. I had to sit down for a few minutes. I think my blood sugar is low due to not having anything other than shakes and 2 boiled eggs and 1/2 cup unsweeted applesauce for the past 2 days. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this on the pre-op diet? I get banded Aug. 23 and at least this experience will be over with and out of the way so when I'm post op I wont have to deal with that also. Any feedback is appreciated.
readytogoforit 172 Posted August 15, 2012 yes, I bet it is your blood sugar. be sure not to wait too long between meals. what are you allowed to eat right now?
Sojourner 2,446 Posted August 15, 2012 Yes, I would agree that it does read that your blood glucose level may be low. The other consideration is that your body is in the process of looking for alternative sources of energy, and the common fast converted carbs are not there. You did not mention if you are diabetic...if so, this is a good time to pay additional attention to your blood glucose levels. As with other adjustments that band surgery will bring, this too shall pass... Best wishes as you begin your journey...
missymobaby 23 Posted August 15, 2012 My dr. doesn't require a pre-op diet but wanted to do one anyway to ensure a less fatty liver and ensure a smooth procedure. So I've been doing Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and the first night did chicken broth but last night decided I would do still no sugar/carbs and ate dinner of 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce and a boiled egg and a grilled piece of pork w/ no BBQ Sauce.< /p>
Diva Down 26 Posted August 15, 2012 To me the pre op diet was the toughest! Our bodies are used to us packing it full of calories full of carbs and fat. I wish you good luck to hang in there through the first couple of days as your body is withdrawing from the "normal" routine you had!! I am diabetic and it was especially tough for me, but even with cutting the carbs down to less than 20g per day, my lowest blood sugar was 71. Which isn't to shabby!! Good luck to you!! 5/28/12 pre-op diet started (217lbs) 6/14/12 Surgery 1.8cc added to 10cc band (205lbs). 7/17/12 1st fill (194lbs). 7/24/12 (191lbs) 7/30/12 (187lbs) 8/14/12 1cc added total of 3.8cc (187)
