Hi Christine. Welcome to LBT. As you can see in my signature block, I'm in Boise, Idaho, USA and have been banded since Jan 9 this year. I've been coming to LBT since December and I dearly love it. There is so much information and encouragement here! You'll make friends in no time at all. Tell us a little bit more about you when you can. Like, where are ya from and when were you banded.. all the usual stuff. It helps people get to know you better.

Again, welcome.. and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Have a look around the different forums. There are hundreds of posts filled with any kind of information you can think of.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm Carrie, I live in the Mesquite, TX area. I've been banded since August, 2005 and lost right at 85lbs. I love my surgeon and my band. My hubby was banded this past January by the same doctor and is doing great.

My best peice of advice is to remember that you are doing this for you and your future. Being banded is very much a mental process, so don't worry if you have a bad day, things will get better.

Best of luck to ya!

Welcome Christine!

I'm PhotoNut's husband and avid supporter of all the bandsters out there. I'm not banded myself but I'm trying to take advantage of wifes (all that healthy food in the house!).

There's a whole bunch of splendid folks on here and you'll make friends in no time.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
