1 day post op and the pain from banding is not bad. I've only taken my pain medicine twice. But my chest hurts from the hiatal hernia repair. Deep breaths make it worse along with the gas I feel in my chest. I had the dry heaves and vomited a little. Is all this normal? I have been using gas x strips. The surgeon also gave me pills to take for stomach spasms.

Congrat:) I was a little nauseous but never threw up. Gas x didn't help me b/c the gas is from the air from surgery. A heating pad worked best for me. It all sounds pretty normal.

I was banded yesterday too and if I am still I have no pain but as soon as I move I feel like my insides have Bren ripped out! Along with the gas pains I pretty much feel terrible. Is this normal and how long does it last?

It's normal, I am 4 days post op. I am starting to feel better but I am still very sore walking around and getting out of bed, or heaven forbid bending over. I'm still occasionally taking pain meds even.

I'm waiting for that magic day that I am better.

Day two was the worse, three was better for me, four and five even better. Tomorrow is day six for me. I can do just about anything except bend at the waist. I use the heating pad a couple of times a day, but no pain meds since day four.

I'm hoping to feel better tomorrow as I go home

and have babies to look after. Is there much restriction on lifting? I have a 5 month old

who will only want me if I'm at home.

My hernia repair was under my breast bone and it was painful for first 2 days. It also felt bad every breath I took. I took my pain meds every 4 hours sharp. I also put a heating pad for 10 minutes on top of my breast bone area to relieve some of this. I did not dry heave. Maybe you should sit in an easy chair with head elevated to help you. By day 3 all discomfort was gone except tender belly button area for another day and then on Day 4 everything stop hurting. I think to get a good nights rest on Day 4 I took my pain med 1 more time. Best wishes and Congratulations.

I was banded the 13th also. I actually felt pretty good on day 2, but now that I'm home (day 2 at noon) the gas is getting worse. I'm sure it's because I'm moving around alot more. Right now my stomach is taut as a drum. Plus, while I know it is all iv fliuds and not real weight gain but I went up 6 pounds from the morning of surgery till this morning. I'm sure once that starts to leave I'll feel better. I just went over all my food options for today and am thrilled that I can have my tea with skimmed milk in it! It is steeping as I type!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
