Tricare Comorbidities...

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what would be considered a comorbidity for Tricare other than the ones listed on their site? I saw the surgeon today & he doesn't think insurance will cover me. He said that my high cholesterol won't count due to me not being prescribed meds for it! He also said no to my PCOS as well!

Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Comorbidities that most insurance accepts are cardiac issues, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, pre diabetes, bmi of over 40. Severe arthritis, spinal issues. All have to be documented by a physician. Having said that, Tri Care is a horse of a different color. You should talk to them. Have your surgeon send in diagnosis evaluation and see what happens. All hey can sa is no. Most surgeons will work out a payment plan with you if insurance doesn't cover. Also, check to see which drs r in networ. That is huge to them. I hope u get approved!

Yes, sleep apnea was a co morbidity for me, plus my size. 252 - 5'2".

Tricare is usually very easy to get approval from. It was so easy that I had my surgery right away and didn't have to go through the classes, which in retrospect, was not the best thing for me.

OK. I had two surgeries. One didn't work out. The last one was Dec. 13, 2011. I started at 252 and was 201 today. Slow loss, but I'm older, don't always make the best choices (lots of emotional/hunger issues I haven't addressed) and have trouble exercising. So all in all I'm happy with my loss.

Very happy with the band. If I did my part it would work like a charm!

I didnt have any co morbs myself. I fit into the "200% over ideal weight". Was easily approved and have lost 132lbs.

I'm just at a 38 BMI with a few co morbs & not taking any meds for them! I'm going through my 6 mo process right now & don't want it to be a waste!

I didnt have a waiting period..I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and sleep apnea. i was approved within 2 days of submittal. So it varies by person..Its not a waste of time..go ahead and get an appt with the nutritionist..and get your psych eval to get that out the way.

I am tricare and had to go through the classes and some differant evaluations, but I think it was my surgeon that required them. I was approved no problem. The nurse and nutritionist at my clinic said tricare is one of the easiest to get approval from. My BMI was 39 and I had sleep apnea and High blood pressure. I had a referal from my nurse pratitioner. I did not have to do the 6 month supervised diet. It took me about 9 months to do all the classes, evaluations and wait for my turn to get a surgery date though. I sggest to anyone thinking about getting a lap band to get started asap because it does take some time but I guess it varies depending on what your surgeon and insurance requires and the number of patients your surgeon does. My surgeon was the only one in his clinic that did lap band surgery at the time. He has someone else with him now so the wait time for surgery date is not as long.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
