2muchfun 8,927 Posted August 13, 2012 Losing weight in the beginning is the easiest part of this journey. The goal is to be satiated when you eat and to reach satisfaction much earlier than you did pre surgery. Much of the weight you lose in the first 6 weeks is Water. The learning curve for the band can be many months. It's a process that requires you get in touch with your band, your stomach and your nutritional needs. I know I thought I understood 2 months out but as time went along I learned I knew nothing. I'm still learning how to communicate with my band and how to make it more efficient. That's why I ask if you feel satisfied with the small amount of food you are consuming? Or, are you eating this way because the doctor requires it? If the answer is you eat this way because the doctor or nutritionist asked you to eat small quantities and, you are eating this way because you feel like you're on a diet. You need a fill. If you are satisfied with 4 ozs of food don't get a fill. You're losing weight and eating right so why rock the boat? BTW-You need to eat vegetables too. A well balanced diet is still very important here. tmf
Heathermarie0407 67 Posted August 13, 2012 Something else my doctor tells me is are you eating your one cup and staying satisfied for 4 hours. If not it is time for a fill. I am also very new to this and I am having a hard time knowin if I need a fill. One day I can't even finish a cup and it's plenty till my next meal other days I could eat two hours after licking my one cup container clean.
Rojasanoll 920 Posted August 13, 2012 You mean WE have a say so on the fills? I didn't know this. I thought it was up to only the surgeon and how much he puts in the band based on weight loss. I don't think my surgeon will ask me othe rather than how I feel. I thought automatically all surgeons on the first fill put in 1 to 2cc as a start and then see if you maintain your weight or lose as well.
Heathermarie0407 67 Posted August 13, 2012 I havnt heard of many docs asking their patient how much of a fill they should get. But for alot f doctors it is up to the patient to call and make an appointment when you feel like you need a fill.
spartanpower 8 Posted August 13, 2012 I heard some patients never need an adjustment. That the restriction from the band is enough. With a good doctor I would hope u get to provide input.
