Help I'm Losing My Hair!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded feb 1 and my Hair loss is barely slowing down ???”. I take Biotin and a prenatal Vitamin. I've read hair loss is due to not getting enough Protein or Iron. I also started using tresemme Shampoo that's meant for hair loss. I've tried it all!! Hopefully it gets better for you. Mine caused a bit of depression after months of clogging my shower. It gets better and think of the big picture. Hair grows back. I'm thankful I'm getting to be a healthier me.

My suggestions:

1) Eat lots of Protein

2) Take Biotin (I take 2500 mg)

3) Take a once a day Vitamin (in case u have a deficency)

Hate to tell u but I'm getting the right amount of Protein, Vitamins, etc and it's still falling out!!! I've cried in the shower many times. My doctor says its normal and just a side effect from the surgery! He promised that it tapers off between 4-6 months! It better!!! Cause I'm freaking out too!!!!

I was experiencing significant hair loss as well. I am now 6 months post op and my Hair loss has slowed down dramatically. I do not think the hair loss is really due to Protein intake or Vitamin deficiency because I was getting much more Protein when I was loosing a lot of hair (months 2-4 post op). Now I am in the green zone and am loosing weight much faster than I was then, and eating less (so less protein by default), but the hair loss is back to normal. I only take a regular Multi-Vitamin as my doctor really did not feel it was tied to nutritional deficit.

I hope this helps!

I cut my hair real short, good for pool and hot excerzises, and gym showers, I figured the less I pulled the better,( curly hair) I am taking Biotin per hair dresser and vitas. but for awhile there- I though OMG im going to be bald! I wonder why this is that way? we get healthier, eat much healthier?? weird- My nails bit peely too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
