Mama2girls 28 Posted August 12, 2012 Does the insurance require the preop diet or does the physician? I have the insurance policy on weight loss surgery and it just talks about BMI requirements etc. I have BCBS NC...
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted August 12, 2012 It can be either! Some docs want you to prove you are serious before they are willing to cut you open and do something permanent. 1 2muchfun reacted to this
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted August 12, 2012 The reason for preop diet is to shrink your liver, to make it easier for surgeon to move it around during surgery 2 LiveLifeAgain and 2muchfun reacted to this
Mama2girls 28 Posted August 12, 2012 Yeah I know the reasoning... Just trying to figure out how long this may take. I am attending my first function this week- the mandatory education session that the MD requires prior to scheduling an appointment. I'm such a planner! SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted August 12, 2012 I was private pay and as long as I had medical records showing I'd been obese for a while, that's all that was needed. Went to my first seminar late October, had surgery 6 weeks later...but the doc did require some weight loss in the mean time.

pjenkinson1970 20 Posted August 12, 2012 I have BCBS I had to do lab test, chest x-ray, urine test, liver and gallbladder sonogram, 2 nutrition meetings, 2 psyche exams, sleep study and had to loose 5% of my weight. They have scheduled my surgery for Aug 28th and I still have to do pre-op meeting and bloodwork on the 16th and start my 9 day liquid diet on the 19th. I started this journey on April 23 with my initial meeting, it's been a long tedious road but I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck and just go with the flow. 1 Mama2girls reacted to this
