Called My Surgeon On His Cell. Thought I Was Dying...

Recommended Posts

Ok, not dying, but I was in terrible pain. My husband works offshore and it was bad enough that I had to have a friend come bathe my kids and spend the night in case I needed to go to the hospital.

I didn't have much pain post-op at all, so I thought I was done with it. NO. I posted on Friday about being tender. By Saturday evening, I thought I was dying. I couldn't stand up straight, breathing even a twinge too deep was awful. I was convinced that I either had slipped my band (though I had not other symptoms) or that I had a toxic infection.

My surgeon encourages patients to use his cell if we need anything and it was bad enough I busted it out and called last night. He said it was normal and I am healing, etc. Said to use my pain meds because that is what they are for (thank goodness I still have some since I was that rockstar recoverer and all) and my heating pad. I did that last night and I feel so much better today.

Today, I have had some kid's ibuprofen and am using some salon pas Patches on my abdomen (not on incisions) and I feel like a new person. If I need my pain meds, I will take them.

So - word of advice - don't take all your pain meds so soon post op if you don't need them!

Im glad you are feeling better! My pain meds didnt really help me, but I was in pain like you a couple days of ago. I do have an infection and a hematoma. I couldn't stand or walk or anything. Now I'm just sore beneath my bra line, kind of tender when I get up too. It's not fun at all, I know how you feel :( to think that I have to go through this again in December frightens me!

I heard that ibuprofen causes erosion. That's why it's not recommended to use with the lapband. Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS are not recommended. If you do take them, take a lower dose, make sure you eat and take with a full glass of Water. Use sparingly, to prevent erosion.

Ibuprofin is an nsaid which means blood thinner. If u talk it pre or post op u can get bloodclots and those are dangerous. Stick with tylenol and it will b ok

I was told same about ibuprofen, it can cause bleeding in you're stomach and even hemorrhages. my doctors were very serious when they explained this.

Forever? Or just for a few months pre/post op?

Yeah, all anti inflammatories come with a warning for these types of sides effects; ulcers, bleeding, perforation, gastritis, etc. It interferes with the mucosa lining of your stomach and can lead to erosion too. Ask your doctor though to make sure what medications you can and cannot take.

So besides Tylenol, what pain relievers are not damaging to the stomach lining?

My doctor prescribed Vicodin for me. But too much of that isn't good either, damaging to the liver and kidneys! Haha I don't think we can win! :P But I think Tylenol is pretty much it for OTC medicine. Everything else I think of is aspirin or Motrin or ibuprofen. I just remembered that Vicodin is basically Tylenol just stronger, they are both made of acetaminophen.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
