Hi, I haven't had my surgery yet; but I will tell you something I've learned after watching my mom & myself dealing with medical people for a countless number of years....only YOU can control how they treat you. I have hidden veins myself & before I have blood drawn I let the person know this in advance. By the time I'm done saying this, they know I am not their personal pin cushion & I will not tolerate that kind of treatment. Be firm....their job is to take care of you; make them do it well!

Don't worry about tomorrow. You'll be fine. :)

I actually always do tell nurses and doctors I have SERIOUSLY deep veins, and the reply I get is 'yea yea, I've been doing this for years, I know what I'm doing' but then they soon realise they've met their match and can't get to my veins and I get so frustrated :( I find that maternity nurses/midwives are good at finding them sometimes, but none of them here :( so nervous something will go wrong tomarro :(

my veins are deep also and i tell them to use the top of my hand.

nothing will go wrong and you will be 100% fine. you will wake up banded.

just be as nice as you can and kill them all with kindness (anyone who is mean/rude/bad mood)

Yea I try to be supper sweet when I'm in hospital or at the doctors because I usually get grumpy nurses but then they lighten up :) when I had samonella when I was 17 a grumpy nurse kept poking me with a needle 8 times 8 different places! Eventually I burst out crying and said 'I'm sorry I've just been though a lot today' and I think she felt bad and turned out really nice lol :) yea I really hope it goes well, super nervous lol thanks :)

For someone who wants to complain about spelling, sayin' is not a word.

Ask them to do a local anethesia to numb the spot before they place iv. Also tell them you are scared of needles and they are usually nicer.

I was just discussing how the part most disturbing to me has to be the IV. I asked my mom would they numb the area, she said no however she is against it. So glad you were here to inform me. Thanks SpartanPower!
