Has Anyone Experienced This Type Of Pain?

Recommended Posts

I'm not totally sure how to explain this so i'll try my best.

To start i'm about 4 weeks post op and no fills.

For the past week i have had extreme back pain...ive never had pain in the spot i have it in before. The pain gets worse throughout the day and i end up almost being hunched over with pain. It's directly in the middle of my back and the pain can be felt all the way through to my stomach (not sure how to explain that). I also can feel the pain when i take deep breaths and that prevents me from taking too deep of a breath.

I cant help but think it has something to do with the band only cuz i have never had back pain like this before and i dont recall pulling it at any point.

Am i just over thinking this?? Anyone experience this?

That's how I felt when I had gallstones. I explained it as I couldn't tell if my back hurt so bad that it was upsetting my stomach, or if my stomach hurt so bad it was bothering my back.

Hope you figure out what it is soon!

Exactly...but luckily my gall bladder was taken out at the same time as band surgery. :(

Definitely call your doctor! It could be a slipped band or something else. I had horrible pain in my back when my appendix ruptured (and no pain in the normal place you would for that). I walked around like that for a few days thinking it was just a really lower backache.

In your instance, I have read if your band slips deep breaths can be painful.

I'm not a physician, but from what I have read usually when a band slips, you are not able to keep anything in your stomach.

Your surgeon's office should have an on call physician coverage to field questions of this nature 24/7. If you find the pain too great to tolerate, I would not wait until Monday to get in contact with your surgeon.

Hmmm, my first slip was accompanied by TONS of pain. My second one was completely surprising, as I had no pain and no problem eating.

I have very much the same thing... i'm almost certain that i don't have a slip... Let me ask you this... do you consume more that 3/4 to 1 cup when you eat? I found that if i was eating more that what was required even by a very small amount that i would get this sensation... just a suggestion. Keep me updated!

Interesting... i know i have eaten very little, especially when i first started eating soft food but i did seem to mqybe eat a lil more yesterday and the pain was horrible last night and into today. I dont feel restriction but do stop myself from eating too much. Yesterday may have been an exception. So u had horrible back pain??

I wouldn't describe it as horrible... bad or "unusual". I know for sure that if i even eat 1.5 cups of food (which is almost double what is suggested( i'm very very uncomfortable. I've just been trying to listen to my body to figure out what's actually happening. I'm a hairstylist and i know that it has impacted my work... i now have an assistant, and i'm not sure how i ever lived without her, lol.

i'm not sure if that made sense, lol... i WOULD describe the pain as bad, unusual or very uncomfortable.

I had the exact same problem and feelings. Went to my doc and my band had slipped. He unfilled my completely and I go back next week to see if that corrected it and start getting fills again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
