sharonk 23 Posted August 11, 2012 I'm not totally sure how to explain this so i'll try my best. To start i'm about 4 weeks post op and no fills. For the past week i have had extreme back pain...ive never had pain in the spot i have it in before. The pain gets worse throughout the day and i end up almost being hunched over with pain. It's directly in the middle of my back and the pain can be felt all the way through to my stomach (not sure how to explain that). I also can feel the pain when i take deep breaths and that prevents me from taking too deep of a breath. I cant help but think it has something to do with the band only cuz i have never had back pain like this before and i dont recall pulling it at any point. Am i just over thinking this?? Anyone experience this?
timetobefree 5 Posted August 11, 2012 That's how I felt when I had gallstones. I explained it as I couldn't tell if my back hurt so bad that it was upsetting my stomach, or if my stomach hurt so bad it was bothering my back. Hope you figure out what it is soon! sharonk 23 Posted August 11, 2012 Exactly...but luckily my gall bladder was taken out at the same time as band surgery.
A New New Dawn 1,695 Posted August 11, 2012 Definitely call your doctor! It could be a slipped band or something else. I had horrible pain in my back when my appendix ruptured (and no pain in the normal place you would for that). I walked around like that for a few days thinking it was just a really lower backache. In your instance, I have read if your band slips deep breaths can be painful. 1 Maddysgram reacted to this
sharonk 23 Posted August 11, 2012 For sure...going to call dr come monday morning! I hope its not a slip!!! I just got the darn thing
Sojourner 2,446 Posted August 11, 2012 I'm not a physician, but from what I have read usually when a band slips, you are not able to keep anything in your stomach. Your surgeon's office should have an on call physician coverage to field questions of this nature 24/7. If you find the pain too great to tolerate, I would not wait until Monday to get in contact with your surgeon.
sharonk 23 Posted August 11, 2012 I seem to keep food down so i guess thats a good thing. I went ahead and called the drs office and left a message but i dont know if its monitored during non business hours.
timetobefree 5 Posted August 11, 2012 Hmmm, my first slip was accompanied by TONS of pain. My second one was completely surprising, as I had no pain and no problem eating.
familygirl 15 Posted August 11, 2012 I have very much the same thing... i'm almost certain that i don't have a slip... Let me ask you this... do you consume more that 3/4 to 1 cup when you eat? I found that if i was eating more that what was required even by a very small amount that i would get this sensation... just a suggestion. Keep me updated! sharonk 23 Posted August 11, 2012 Interesting... i know i have eaten very little, especially when i first started eating soft food but i did seem to mqybe eat a lil more yesterday and the pain was horrible last night and into today. I dont feel restriction but do stop myself from eating too much. Yesterday may have been an exception. So u had horrible back pain??
familygirl 15 Posted August 11, 2012 I wouldn't describe it as horrible... bad or "unusual". I know for sure that if i even eat 1.5 cups of food (which is almost double what is suggested( i'm very very uncomfortable. I've just been trying to listen to my body to figure out what's actually happening. I'm a hairstylist and i know that it has impacted my work... i now have an assistant, and i'm not sure how i ever lived without her, lol.
familygirl 15 Posted August 11, 2012 i'm not sure if that made sense, lol... i WOULD describe the pain as bad, unusual or very uncomfortable.

CincyUdy 35 Posted August 12, 2012 I had the exact same problem and feelings. Went to my doc and my band had slipped. He unfilled my completely and I go back next week to see if that corrected it and start getting fills again.
