Just Got My Band Slip Semi Fixed

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm 29 yrs old and I had my band put in March 19,2012. Went into surgery 273lbs and went into surgery yesterday morning 209lbs. My hubby says that I should've just taken off my band but HELLO!? I've lost 64lbs in 5 months and not only that I paid $14k cash to get rid of my investment just like. But my main concern is weight gain, I weighed myself 2day and I weigh 8 more then yesterday. And I've gotta wait a whole month and a half before getting my band re placed properly. :(

If you had surgery you probably had IV fluids, every time I've had IV fluids I've gone home 8-12 lbs heavier.....should be gone in a few days. Try not to fret too much!

oh, thanks. i didnt even think about the IV or the meds :D

i´ve been thinking about what to do for the next month 1/2 though before i get my band re placed where it needs to be. i wouldnt wanna go through what ive gone through in the past week let alone the past few days, uggh! horrible. i really dont wanna gain a whole lot of weight cause i´m the kind of person that just thinking about food makes me gain weight :(

I had mine taken out last week and have to wait 6-12 MONTHS before I can do anything else. The thought of regaining all that mess terrifies me!!!!

For me it started with nausea after eating and throwing up often, did liquids, calmed down, then when I restarted food when I ate I got excruciated chest and left shoulder pain that lasted hours OR until I threw up which magically cured the pain which proved to me I was up a creek! By the time my doc got me in I could slowly sip warm Clear Liquids and they would pass but anything else, even Protein Shakes, caused pain and came back up. Barium swallow or esophogram clearly showed the problem, surgery a few days later because of the size of the slip.

Well I'd been throwing up for about to weeks. Didn't think much of it because I'd throw up thick spit and whatever I tried to get down, no pain just relief. BUT this weekend was the one that did it for me, I had 2 scoops of rice and I immediately started to vomit like I usually did but I didn't feel any type of relief this time. I continued to vomit until I just started to vomit acidic tasting black gunk or coffee grounds like my Dr referred to it which was a "none panicky way" of telling me that it was blood. So he made me go get an xray and take it to his office and showed how my band was waaay off from where it was originally and told me he had to operate in 48 hrs or less so I wouldn't get a perforated stomach which would be even worse. So he empties my band as much as he could and I got surgery 2 days ago ( feeling great btw) to loosen the band all the way and in about a month & 1/2 when all my swelling goes completely down I go back to get my band placed properly. I can't wait. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
