Tender Port Area - 3 Weeks Post Op

Recommended Posts

My port area (or what I assume is the port area) seems to be somewhat tender. It doesn't necessarily hurt, but it is noticeable if I lean over.

Anyone else experience this? I didn't even notice it until last week.

Got the same thing... Called my Dr. a few days ago and I haven't heard back. Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I should remember to ask you all first. Response time is sooo much faster & complete. I'm about 5 weeks out but I've noticed it for almost two :(

Hi Harmony,

I am 2 weeks post-op and my entire stomache is swollen, bloated, and tender. Especially around my port area. Tender to the touch even! However, I noticed it is getting a tiny bit better as the days go by. Oh, did I mention I feel as though I am ready to give birth to a 10 pound child, LOL

Hang in there!

I am 1 wk and 2 days post op and feel the same way. I'm glad I'm not the only one. My area looks like a small lump. Not to mention the bloated feeling.

I have about convinced myself that I have a slip even though I have no reflux, no vomiting (one PB - my fault) - just a tender area that is more noticeable with deep breaths and bending over (bathing my kids).

I am pretty sure I am just crazy!!

Haha! Not crazy silly. I remember one thing that was said, the pocket where the port is in women is shallower then men. nearer to the surface where it was places on you ad me. The incision is quite a bit to the left of the port. When I got my fill, I was surprised because it wasn't close to the incision. Since we have the same doc. I did overhear that ports are placed all over the place, just varies by doc.

I have also heard of ports being placed in different areas. Some by belt line, some by bra line. Wondering what is common. Mine gets a bit irritated when my bra rubs it certain times. Any one else?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
