Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Lorna. I am new to this whole posting and asking people for advice and help but defiantly welcome it! I am getting banded in a little less then a month I'm nervous yet very excited to change my life around in a whole new way! Is there anything I should be concerned with right away that I haven't thought of? What are some good post op diet foods everyone has done? Thank for your help!

All newbies should read Jean McMillan's Bandwagon book. Over 500 pages of stuff you need to know. Her magazine articles are on the right side of this page.

FYI-There are so many phases to this journey it's difficult to say what we eat. I eat about the same as before just a lot less. I am eating healthier. More veggies, more salads, less dairy, less flour, less sugar. Seems to be easier with the band.

Perhaps I am being nave, but I just had a lap chole in March that sparked this whole adventure. My. surgeon feels that this will be very comparable.

I could have gone back to work on Monday (surg was Thurs). In fact I did work two basketball games on Saurday and Sunday. Sunday was that breaktrough day for me all the way around, but I think pushing myself on Saturday helped me REALLY sleep and heal.

I think I am smarter going into this process so I am going to have surgery on a wednesday with the intent of returning on the 12th day. I really can't afford to be off long.

Just say a quick prayer that this plan works!!!

The surgery for me was a breeze.

Pain when I woke up the quickly controlled that and I walked as soon as I got back to my room and did not stop walking through out the day and night.

I had no real gas discomfort and I followed all pre- op instructions without cheating or giving in.

I am so glad I did this and you will be too. Set a plan create a food journal and follow surgeons instructions you will do great.

A positive attitude is always helpful. Try not to be nervous you will be in good hands if you have selected a good surgeon

Best of luck and let me know if I can assist.

Welcome!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
