Raspberry Ketones

Recommended Posts

Has anybody heard of Raspberry Ketones? I have a friend in my workout group that is taking it and is losing weight like crazy. It's all natural. I was wondering can we take anything like that with the band...I'm 3 months banded and have only lost 10 lbs. work out no less than 4 times a week and walks everyday. I've lost inches but just wondering if I could take something to jump start.

I'm not sure what is and honestly a little confused by it. Ketones are essentially broken down fat cells spilled into the urine. Since carbs are the body's preferred source of energy, when it can't find carbs to use to it uses fat instead.

Normally this would be considered a warning sign of diabetes, however low carb diets are essentially forcing your body to spill ketones in order to lose weight. So diets like Atkins will result in ketones in the urine intentionally.

That is what a ketone is...which is why 'raspberry ketones' to take confuses me quite a lot lol. I'm guessing it's some diet pill or something?

Ok I found it online: http://certifiedraspberryketones.com/

It is a supplement not a diet pill, like Phentermine. I don't see any reason why you couldn't take it but you might want to double check with your surgeon just to be safe.

It's a diet supplement, Dr. Oz said this about it:

Research has shown that raspberry ketone can help in your weight-loss efforts, especially when paired with regular exercise and a well-balanced diet of healthy and whole foods.

Raspberry ketone is the primary aroma compound of red raspberries. This compound regulates adiponectin, a Protein used by the body to regulate metabolism. Raspberry ketone causes the fat within your cells to get broken up more effectively, helping your body burn fat faster. The recommended dose is 100mg per day. To get the same benefit from the whole fruit, you'd have to consume 90 pounds of raspberries.

I've done my research on it but I was just kind of scared to take it with the lap band.

I take 100mcg of synthroid and my primary dr said no problem but my thyroid could be the reason I'm not losing. Trying to get it regulated.

My only concern would be the pill size. If it's not any bigger than other pills you take and you're not worried about it getting stuck, then your primary care doctor giving the approval to take it should be enough.

And yes, thyroid issues can most definitely hamper weight loss. A lot.

As long as you can swallow the pill without it getting stuck, I say go for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
