Very Slow Loser

Recommended Posts

So I have come to the conclusion that I am, and will always be a slow loser. I am currently at 6cc in a 9cc bands and I'm only down 12 lbs since May/1/2012...I'm working my ass off in the gym with no progress, I even eat right......I'm finding myself getting discouraged at times. BUT I refuse to give up....

welcome to my world!!! Had to get a slight unfill in April and while I am now back to 8.0 in my band, I am yo-yoing on the scale....two pounds up, 1 pound down, ever since then. Hopefully I will be able to lose more soon! It has been a VERY SLOW process these last few months!!

Don't be so hard on yourself! The first 6 weeks you are heavier because of the extra blood that your body produces to heal itself. So technically you've only had a month or so of actual weight loss. Remember if you are working out crazy at the gym you gain muscle very easy as well. Take it a little slow to start and do a lot of cardio so that doesn't happen. It seems like nothing now, next thing you know you are 10 months out and 75 lbs down and it's amazing!!

I'm a slow loser too. I'm just hoping that it will be steady. My nutritionist told me that losing slowly is actually better since (in her experience) those that lose slowly tend not to plateau as much. I'm only losing 0-2 lbs/week (certain weeks nothing, others up to 2). Since surgery on 6/25, I'm only down 18 lbs. And most of those were the first 2 weeks when I was on liquids only.

Good luck to you!

I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing the next 3.4 months. You don't say anything about fills, restriction, calories and foods you eat?

I didn't start losing till I went in for my 3rd fill and 1st nutritionist meeting. She helped me immensely. I was able to shave about 300 calories off a day after we went over my daily intake of foods. I highly recommend seeing yours. My 3rd fill gave me my first restriction and first opportunity to learn how to co-exist with my band.

I am the same... banded 3rd June 12 I lost 16lbs but that was in the first 3 weeks then nothing... all i keep thinking is stay positive until restriction, although thereupon I had the band was because of not being able to say no, well I still can't say no so neeeed that restriction!

Keep us posted, keep positive and listen to fellow experienced bandsters... that's what I'm doing... good luck!!! :)

I think we expect an overnight miracle to happen right away. I know we have all heard "you didn't gain all this weight in a month, so don't expect to loose it in a month". Don't get discouraged. It took me 2 years to get to my goal weight. It will happen if you do the right things. Also you should measure youself. Sometimes when you don't see results on the scale you will on the tape measure. Good luck and keep up the good work.

are your clothes looser?

do you feel better?

if you can answer yes, then what is the problem?

I'm the same way. I was banded on May 18th and have only lost. 10 lbs. I'm going for my 3rd fill next week. I get really discouraged when my sisters point out that I haven't lost that much for what I paid for. I was self pay. I get really tired of hearing that. That's why I only told my immediate family. Some times I wished I would of told no one.

I only lost on the average 6 lbs per month. I had an eight week stall. It took me nine months to get to good restriction. Guess what, I eventually lost all of my weight. I have kept it off for SIX YEARS. It is not how fast or slowly you lose the weight. The main objective is to keep it off permanently. Please do not compare yourself to others or get discouraged. The band works beautifully. It sounds like you are doing everything you are supposed to. Enjoy the journey. Good luck.

For those of you who have made a snap decision that you are slow losers, it is far too early to make that assumption. If after one year you've lost less than 40 lbs you might be able to make this claim but there is so much you do not understand about the band and the journey you are on. 2 months does not make a trend. 2 years maybe?

It's understandable how you came to this conclusion. Most of us were enticed into the lapband with grandiose visions of losing 10-12 lbs every month and the weight would simply fall off. The band would do it all. And of course, all of this would happen immediately after surgery. HA! Surprise, that aint happenin! Now you will have to work with your band, now you will have to learn to communicate with your band, now you will have to learn how and why your body reacts to different food choices. You're still freshmen seeking a doctorate so be patient and stay the course.

I embellished this quote and don't recall where I stole it from:

The jealous competitor. – Don’t be jealous of others. Jealousy is the art of counting someone else’s blessings instead of your own. Stop comparing your journey with everyone else’s. Your journey is YOUR journey, NOT a competition. You are in competition with one person and one person only – yourself. You are competing to be the best you can be. If you want to measure your progress, compare yourself to who you were yesterday or last year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
