Recommended Posts

how important is limiting carbs in the full liquid stage? i always watched my carbs pre op all sugar free stuff, and things like cream of chicken Soup which i am eatting now, wer not a part of my diet then. i am having a hard time treading the Water . how can I get in the Protein needed without spending a fortune on shakes? and I am wondering about the carbs because i had lost 10 lbs after my surgery but since entering my full liquid phase I have gained 3 lbs. and I would have thought in this time i would have lost more weight and I am wondering if carbs are the reason? I had my surgery in mexico and it was fine but i dont have many options for followup advice. thanks for you help yall.

Can you add protien powder to your Soups, yoguart, applesauce and pudding............protien will fill you up and you can lay off the carbs. A blender, greek yoguart, pro. powder and fruit would be a good start, you should try making your own, save $$ from buying them

Protein is important because it promotes healing. Carbs, however, I wouldn't worry about until you're at least on soft foods. The reason being, your choices are already severely limited by only being able to have liquids. If you try to restrict your carbs too you're going to have very little to sustain you.

When I was on the liquid phase, I counted calories and Protein but not carbs.

Best wishes!

Carbs can cause you to retain fluids so the short answer is yes.

You are in bandster hell now. This is the phase of your journey that the swelling around your band has subsided and you have no saline in your band so you're portal is wide open. You will be hungry much of the time. It's no fun and you just have to keep eating healthy or you will gain. Here's a link to another clinic's lapband manual. http://www.peachtreebariatrics.com/docs/Gastric-Band-Patient-Manual.pdf You should be able to find many of your answers here. I would also recommend Jean McMillan's Bandwagon book. Her magazine articles are on the right side of this page.

Keep in mind you are still in the healing phase so don't be so concerned with losing weight just yet.

Since my band on Aug 6, I'm on solid liquid for 2 weeks. Protein Shakes, chicken/beef/veggie broths, SF popsicles. And I do look at all that I'm eating including carbs. You can make wise choices based on the amount of carbs between 2 items. If 1 item has 100 carbs, and the other item has 200 carbs, I select the least one in carbs. It's wise to start this way because when you do get off the stages and do start eating, You will count carbs again. Just as well stay like like this if you want to truly succeed. Best Wishes

You mentioned cost, as an option if you have a Big Lots near you, you may want to run Zoic drinks by your nutritionist. They are 15 gram Protein, 90 calories, and really low in carbs, like 1-2 depending on the flavor, and I'm talking net carbs after you deduct the Fiber. I'm in regular food stage now and I still drink these and they are good. They are $5.00/4 pack, but I'm talking prices in Kentucky. They are located in the medicine area of the store. whey protein makes me sick, but these don't. Just a thought.
