Hi, so I'm 3 years post surgery and today I had gum. One of the very few times I actually have chewed gum since surgery. I accidently swallowed it. I tried to throw it up, but it didn't come up. I'm scared because I always heard there's a possiblity it could block up in your band. Has anyone else ever swallowed gum with the band? Experiences? :(

I just been told it's a no no and you might have to have it removed. Hope you are able pass it.

I assume it will pass like anything else. My Dr NEVER said anything about gum and I chew it all the time. Swallowed it once but it didnt get stuck. SO its stuck now? I would thing your body temp would melt it enough to allow it to pass. Any luck yet?

I don't feel as if it's stuck, I've only had liquids this morning however. I will see how lunch goes. Thanks so much the reply! I'll see what happens. I guess I just got freaked out at first because that hasn't happened to be since being banded! :)

I was told gum was a no-no but I still chew it occasionally. Call me a "rebel" I guess ;) I'm just very cautious. It's the only thing to keep my mouth from getting dry when I run.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
