I Love Been Banded And Plicated!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on July 30th and now feel as if I never had it at all with the exception of eating small amounts of mushie food. For anyone that is wondering if plication is painful I would say not any more than the band because my pain was minimal for a few days. I weighed in today at 13lbs lost and my blood sugars are great. I am so glad I added the plication option was totally worth the extra money!

I feel the same. Totally greatful for the plication. Just curious, what was the additional amount charged?

My surgeon/asst surgeon and hospital fees amounted to $2350. I have insurance so I am not sure how much that differs with self-pay. When was your surgery? Always glad to meet another plicated pal ;)

Sorry to sound uneducated but what is plicated?

Does it help? Do tell

Not uneducated...it's rather new! Plication is when the surgeon folds the stomach and double sutures it then puts the band on and sutures that. It gives a sleeve effect so you can loose more faster and prevents the band from slipping. It also reduces the fills you need. There are no long term studies done on it here in the US so I am kind of a guinea pig :P

I am also a plication or imbrication patient. Best decision i could have ever made. I had my surgery April 24, 2012 and I am now down 63 pounds. I have not had a fill yet, but I feel that my first one might be fast approaching. I did not pay anymore than what I would have with just the lap band. I have been very successful up to this point.

I am also in the U.S. :P

I am having my band with plication tomorrow! I am self pay and regular lapband was $9999 and with plication it was $11799. I elected to pay more for the extra help. I'm worried about recovery with the plication though. Did you guys do alright after? I have to be observed 6 hrs after and then can go home.

Pennie.

Thanks for the info. I am always interested in what is new in the WLS world. Sounds like it is working for you. Please keep all of us informed of your personal journey. I, myself , was banded in 2006. One of the best decisions of my life. Not without pitfalls however. Sure helped with the onset of menopause( whole other post) best wishes for success

Recovery for me was ok. The first week I just stuck to my broth. When week 2 came around I couldn't change phases like I was supposed to... I not only had the plication, and the lap band, but I also had a hiatal hernia repair. It was trying, and honestly I second guessed my decision to have the surgery because I was nervous that I would always feel that poorly.

Thank goodness everything turned itself around entering into week 3. Just remember it takes time to heal. And look to your support system for reassurance. Definitely worth it!

I had lap band with plication on July 23. I have been doing great and feeling wonderful, but I have not lost anything in 4 days. Is this normal? I'm exercising and eating like I'm suppose to, but the scales hate me.

My surgeron, Dr. Darrin Hansen, started adding the plication as part of his surgical procedure and the cost was the same to me. In fact I had no idea he did it until I did some research on here, and on other sites, and then I asked my Dr. and he told me he started doing it in January as a general rule. I am hoping it helps me with extra weight loss, he said it should be around 70% as opposed to 60% with just the band, but again there has been no long term study thus far.

GRRRR

This makes me even more miserable that my surgeon won't do plication

Hearing everyone's success stories makes me really want it. I need to lose the weight!

I am fighting the urge to weigh-in every day because of this reason. From what I understand it is totally normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
