Inches Lost Vs Weight Lost

Recommended Posts

Have you all noticed that sometimes even on a weight plateau you seem to lose inches?

I seem to go down for 3 or 4 days and then I stop and don't drop for 3 or 4, but I notice a change in how my clothes fit. Even though I have only lost 2 lbs in the last week, a pair of pants I wore last week feel a lot looser today than they did last week, I keep having to pull them up.

I haven't measured myself, maybe I should start doing that instead of just weighing.

I totally agree! I do my measurements everytime I weigh in with the doctor. It's been every 6 weeks since surgery. I get frustrated about not losing (for 3 weeks) and I'm told that I am working out A LOT more than I ever have and that I am building muscle and toning, so the weight loss may be slower, but my clothes are fitting better. I have lost 74 lbs, but also 31.5" in the last nine months. I've dropped 6 pant sizes! Those numbers are even more important to me than the 74 lbs! Good luck!

WOW shellabee that is amazing. You should be incredibly proud. And yes I agree! The scale hasn't moved for me in nearly a week yet all my clothes are hanging off me :)

It is amazing - and unexplainable.

it works the opposite way too - since starting HRT my body has ah "redistributed". I have my saddlebags back - without gaining any weight. Sheesh. All my pants feel tight in the legs. I have washboard abs.

Its a fairly inexplicable phenomenon - because although everyone loves to say muscle weighs more than fat (actually it doesnt, a pound is a pound, its just denser) - there is NO way on the sort of calorie deficits lapbanders have that you are building muscle at the same rate you can lose fat. You'd be winning Ms Universe in a few months time if you were that freak of nature.

Just enjoy it, even if the lack of numbers lost on the scale is frustrating - who cares why it happens?
